US Cellular and GPS
 

OK, brand new user/poster here. Just bought two Moguls from USCell who released them last Friday. US Cell has by far the best coverage in my area so I had to wait this long to get a decent phone.

I am looking at the GPS workaround (called that 'cuz "there is no official ROM update" as far as USCell is concerned). ](*,)

Will the GPS enable/ROM update work on USCell, or will something need to be modified first? I am eager to try but want some informed opinions first.

Anyone know or better yet tried it?

Well lots of custom roms include the newest updates and are customized for different carriers. So you'd just have to find one customized for US Cellular.

Right - haven't found one customized for USC so I need to know if the HTC ROM update will work. I have contacted their help email address and received no reply.

Does anyone know if the ROM update will work for US Cellular 6800? I would think it should work unless USCell has significantly altered things.

A ROM and extended_ROM dump from a US Cellular ppc6800 is needed.
Anyone willing to dump and upload to the ftp, it would be helpful.

I received this from HTC about the USCellular updated ROM (below).

If anyone can figure out the needed mods to make the updated ROM work with USCellular a case of your favorite beverage is on me. :)

Knowing USCell over the last several years they will NOT be releasing an update. They too marketed this phone as having GPS and I point that out to them when I contact them.

Outback did you help Colonel with the ROM... if not Colonel please set up a time with me and I will try do dump my rom for your use... thanks in advance for offering to help us!!

Yes. US Cellular has been added to the 5060 kitchen thanks to Outback, cnr and Colonel.

Just follow the usual procedure for unlocking and flashing stock 3.35 sprint (do not let the sprint customizations run) as the other non-sprint users.
