I actually had a similar problem after I upgraded the ROM on an Alltell 6800. Thereafter, the roaming indicator was always on. A few months later, I had to go outside of Alltel's network for work and the phone worked exactly the same except for no EVDO.

well this old thread brings back some memories...
since the OP resolved his issue (long ago) i think its safe to shut this bad boy down. :D
