Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

I need app that can use my PPC as USB Flash drive.
I used one, don't remember name but it was very slow.
I need faster like USB 2.0 :-D

Does WM5storage work on the 6800? I thought it wasn't compatible with WM6?

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

What transfer speed they have?
Which one is better?
Cost don't care me.

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

Unfortunately, neither Card Export or WM5torage are working on Titan 3.XX ROMs (at least not for me). I've contacted the makers of Card Export about the issue and run a few debug programs for them. Hopefully they'll come up with a solution.

Has anyone gotten either of these programs to work on a 3.XX Titan ROM?

You won't get USB 2.0 speed until HTC releases new version of our phone..

Mogul is only USB 1.1

card export replied to my trouble ticket:

Reply date - 2008-04-07

Unfortunately 3.08 version of Card Export doesn't support the latest 6800's firmware. However this one will be supported in next version of our software. The new version will be released in 1-2 weeks.

ahh thats good news that an update is coming out soon. thanks for letting us know!

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

Just an update (mostly confirmation of what stifiling said):

Igor (from Softick) had me test another debug version. Everything seems to be working OK. He said they were shooting for a release in the next week, but it may take up to 2 weeks. Either way, we should have something soon.

does your version work now? share?

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

It does work, but seeing as they have been so responsive in updating the software to accomodate their customers, I'd rather not screw them over by freely posting it here.

I understand the desire to have this working again though :)

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

I have got the newest official ROM, Vista, and when I have my MOGUL connected it shows up as a device in "My Computer", can get to it and the storage card (just like you can with a flash drive).
Based on that, I am wondering why a program would be needed for this.....

nuguy 04-10-2008 02:42 PM

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

This type of program makes the card (and extended rom, if done right) a mountable drive (w/ a drive letter) that does not need activestink.

1)it acts just like a 'thumbdrive'
2)No need to have activestink installed (say, a friends computer)
3)no "file conversion" or licence issues (transfer an mp3/wmv file for instance)
4)faster for large file transfers

Gotcha, I wasn't thinking of the possibility of wanting to use it as a flash drive on somebody else's computer.
When I have had long days (and still another 5 hours or so left at work) my logic does not really flow as it should.......

actually not really. I always have my thumb drive with me, so I don't really have the need to use my Mogul as a thumb drive.

Why don't people just use a MicroSD card reader and keep it with them?
I keep this in my wallet:

That's pretty cool, but one of my main reasons for even owning a PPC/Phone is to carry around less stuff. Even small stuff... :)

Well, that mini-reader is actually smaller than carrying around a USB cable which you would need to use anyways...

Of course your main PC (activesync) probably has a USB sync cable already attached but this is great for connecting to ANY PC.

Great adapter, but I use Card Export since I have a HTC Touch. (3.08 works great!) Removing the battery cover every time I want to get to the microSD would not be any fun!

I'm fairly sure WM5torage works for the Touch as well. And it is freeware. If you haven't already paid the license for Card Export you might want to check it out.

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

Looks like version 3.10 is out.

Working well for me. The only issue I see is that it doesn't seem to report the total card capacity correctly (running a 6gb SDHC). It was this way in the last debug version I tested as well. I mentioned it, but I guess it is still not fixed. Not that it really matters.

Side note: I'll have to play with it a little more, but it doesn't seem to allow the old trial version + WM5torage *workaround* anymore. We were all going to buy it anyway though right? Good.

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

Well, I just installed the trial and it works terribly, it keeps connecting and reconnecting. Sometimes it won't connect at all. I have keep plugging it in and unplugging it. After about twenty tries it finally stayed connected, but twice it's asked me for a driver which I don't have. I don't see this as worth buying if these issues persist.

bedoig 04-22-2008 02:18 PM

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

I haven't had any of those problems myself. Does your USB port work normally otherwise? If you are in the mood to troubleshoot, I'd contact the developer. In my experience he has been very responsive.

Existentialism 04-22-2008 03:35 PM

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

I might try that a bit later. And I can use activesync over it fine. Transfer files and whatnot. So no one has gotten a driver prompt?

bedoig 04-22-2008 03:37 PM

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

Did you have a previous version installed? Are you sure you got the WM5/WM6 v3.10 cab from the site?

Existentialism 04-22-2008 06:28 PM

Re: Need to use PPC as a USB flash drive.

No I didn't. But it seems to be working correctly now, no idea what happened earlier.

Also, is there a way I can see the whol directory, meaning my phones memory as well as the Storage card?

I have a Toouch also and I that is what I am doing now (Removing the battery cover every time I want to get to the microSD) and it sucks...I don't know why I didnt think to look for this program before. I can't activesync my device at work so this works great to access my MSD.
