Anyone using Verizon (rather than Sprint)?!

We hear and read about many of our fellow PPCGeekers that are currently contracted through Sprint (or Canadian Bell and its affiliates) as their cellular telephonic service provider. In fact, there are numerous threads associated with ROM updates for phones on that system. Those of us that are Verizon customers are curious as to whether there are any customized ROMS, tweaks, etc. that are more Verizon Wireless customer targeted? I know many programs and ROM updates in the past - specifically for the VX6700 - were available for Verizonites, I didn't know if there were any or are same for those of us that use the MOGUL VX6800.

So, if there are any of you out there that ARE Verizon Wireless coustomers, please let us know where you are located (such as: "New England", or "New Hmpshire" or "Burlington, Vermont") and what Radio version you are using, and what ROM incarnation you have installed.

That said, I'll start the chain... thread... (whatever....)

I'm with Verizon, and have recently migrated from a HTC Apache (VX6700) to the new Mogul (VX6800). Aside from the obvious cosmetic features and button allocations... the biggest thing was (other than the battery drain - caused in part by the hilly terrain -making the unit pop back and forth between EVDO and 1X)... the cellular service truly SUCKS! (The Verizon PEOPLE are GREAT... just the service is sub standard!) Oh sure, in some areas, it's okay... but, in about 40% of the places, or so it seems, you need to go out doors and move to a pre-designated location and THEN get service. What's worse is when you have your phone on the desk... or in a charger and you have three bars showing, and the monitor states you're between 18%... then 34% and now 66%...oops, back again to 18% signal strength... and I'm not touching it, and no one is moving about the room! Try calling the phone one minute, and the call goes through. Hangup and try calling back... and you're as dead as fresh road kill. The phone NEVER MOVED from the cradle. Go figure.

Device information:
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
ROM version: 2.09.605.8; Radio version: 1.30.60
Location: Orwell, Vermont - just across Lake Champlain from Ticonderoga, New York.

Hopefully this venue will help someone out.

Your turn...!

I am currently running a custom ROM from DCD over at XDA. It has been running great! I have GPS and REV A enabled on my XV6800 along with WM 6.1!

Device information:
CE OS 5.2.19199 (Build 19199.1.0.0 dcd)
ROM version: DCD 3.0.1 (Based on the new Sprint ROM version: 3.35.651.2)
Radio version: 3.35.04
Location: Billings, MT

Edit: DCD's Kitchen and ROM's have a selection that is specifically designed for VZW. I ran the kitchen and installed with no issues. Dialed *228 option 1 and was making calls in just a few minutes. I have been using DCD's ROM's for quite a while and would highly recommend them to anyone!

I'm here too (my 1st post :-)). I'm just using stock ROM. I'm a bit nervous to flash and upgrade but REV A and GPS are really looking good...

VERIZON: WHEN WILL WE GET OUR UPDATE?!?! - that's my main question
but yes I'd really like to know more of the answers too.

Here also. Using DCD's 2.3.2 rom with radio 3.27. Great rom and flashing really aint that hard if u do some research. I said I wouldnt flash but coming from an xv6700 I could'nt resist. I'm thinking about using DCD's kitchen and flash to 3.0.1.I just dont want to have to call verizon to reauthenticate my phone.

TwoDawgs You did'nt have to call verizon. If not than I might flash sooner than I thought,

After flashing the new ROM all I had to do was a *228 option 1 and all was back to normal. No phone call into VZW CS! :headbang:

I'm on Verizon with the VX6800. I've only had it a few days so I'm still on the stock ROM and radio. I've done some tweaking and added an 8GB card. I would love to see more Verizon friendly programming! I'm in KC MO.

I'm new to the forums and PPC modding, so what exactly does changing the stock ROM and radio do?

Re: Anyone using Verizon (rather than Sprint)?!

Most of the custom ROMs and specifically DCDs ROMs are customizable for Verizon. I'm currently using DCDs 3.0.1 Rom with the new 3.35.04 Radio and it is wonderful! GPS capability, more reliable, better memory management, the ability to include some applications to be built into the ROM so that they don't have to be installed seperately, and it fixes lots of the annoyances that I found with the XV6800. I also switched from the XV6700 and was really dissapointed (to put it mildly) that many of the things that had been fixed on the XV6700, had problems again on the XV6800. Several people are working on full blown kitchens for custom roms/carriers/applications, but right now DCDs is about the best out there. Plus he is constantly working on making them better. Just make sure that before flashing your phone, you READ through the thread and UNDERSTAND what you are doing. Also make sure that you download all of the tools that you will need to do the job ahead of time. It works VERY well if the directions are followed, and there are lots of helpful people if you do run into a problem.

And happy flashing.........:headbang:
