Keyboard backlight not turning on after upgrade

Anyone having keyboard backlight issues after the upgrade yesterday? My keyboard backlight doesn't want to turn on anymore... every once in a while it will do it but 90% of the time it will not turn on when I slide it...

did you uncheck the the light sensor setting - that thing seems to be pretty flaky.

Start>Settings>Buttons>Backlight>Uncheck Sensor

I have been having the same issue. I had already unselected the option for the backlight sensor, and I've soft reset a few times, but it still doesn't come on like it used to. With the previous ROM it used to take about 5 seconds to come on after I slid out the keyboard, but now it never comes on. Has anyone else seen this after the upgrade?

I have this problem as well. I have looked in the Reg and made any changes that traditionally would help. Nothing. I have flipped the Sensor check box on and off. Nothing.

Here is what happens:

When the phone is plugged in...All the hardward lights work just fine, including the keyboard. When it is running off the battery, none of them work, except for my LEDs.

This is what led me to browse the Reg, because it sounds like it might be setting somewhere.....but I am only guessing and I have not found anything yet.

Yeah, it takes a little longer even though one of the first things I always do is unckeck the auto-light sensor. It would be cool if someone came up with a fix but I will deal for the time being as so far the new ROM is good overall.

Bump....

Is this a general problem or only unique to a few of us? I still cannot figure out how to get my lights when it is not plugged in. This goes for the Keyboard lights and the button lights on the front.

I had this problem after the no2chem upgrade, it worked perfectly after the sprint 3.35 upgrade, but unchecking the sensor fixed the problem for me. Now it comes on immediately after sliding out the keyboard even when there is plenty of light, but I can live with extra battery hit.

I agree with neodorian, it does seem to take longer for the keyboard lights to come on with the new ROM than it used to.

I did have the issue with the front lights not coming on unless it was on external power, but it turned out to be user error  - I had the setting for the backlight too low on the battery side so it wasn't turning on any of the front lights or the keyboard. Moved it to 10% or 20% and it resolved the issue.

The sensor setting has no effect since I upgraded to the new official ROM

This is weird. When I play with the slider for the backlight brightness on battery power the keyboard lights will flicker on each time I move the slider and then go out again a fraction of a second later.

They still will not stay on.

At least I know that they physically work. This then points to software or settings with the new ROM.

Just a follow up as well. They will flicker on everytime I tap the screen or push a hardware button. It so fast that it is only a fraction of a second.

I am starting to wonder if this is a phone issue or a ROM issue. This is a replacement phone when I did not have an XP machine to unbrick my phone from the dreaded 238 error when I attempted to upgrade my previous phone.

Un-checking the auto-sensor fixed mine before and after the ROM update.

Have you tried a hard reset or reflash yet?

That setting had worked for me previously with the old ROM. However, with the new ROM regardless of whether I have the checkbox selected or not I don't get the backlit keyboard unless I have the power plugged in. :(

Nope. Knowing this is a step in the process of trying to fix it is why I wanted to get a feel if most people have the problem or most people do not.

I just did a full backup this morning in case I did it this evening, so it won't that big of deal to do.

So....I went from no lights.....to flickering lights whenever a button is pushed or the screen is tapped....to working perfectly!

Let's just hope that those steps don't go in reverse order too!!!!

I have had the same problem. I did all the steps said in this thread. I did a hard reset, soft reset, uncheck the box, and tried the slider but my backlight will not come on. I think I am going to take the phone back to the store. As I have tried every possible idea... If anyone else can think of something it would be great as everyone knows how horrible tech support for sprint is.

Re: Keyboard backlight not turning on after upgrade

Thought I'd let everyone know... I was at the bar last night, and trying to text and keyboard back light REFUSED to come on. I slid it like 12 times before just typing carefully. So this morning I used the search feature, and found this thread.

My issue was screen brightness. I had it on the lowest setting because, heck, I could still see it and it'd extend battery life. I opened up the keyboard, which didn't light up, went to Start > Settings > System > Backlight and slid the "On Battery Power" slider over ONE notch and the light popped right on. Oh, and the sensor for the keyboard backlight is turned off, in case you're wondering.

As a previous poster stated, this is a battery hit, but minimal enough to say "who gives a ****" AND, if your phone idles for a few seconds it will revert to lowest backlight, which in turn shuts off the keyboard backlight as well. Just thought I'd share what worked for me.

I have been having the same problem as well, but I have reflashed and done a few hard resets. I never had this problem when I was using official sprint versions, but I didn't have a GPS either... lol Anyways, I have tried the hard reset and it still doesn't work, anyone have any other ideas?

it wont come on till it's done re-drawing everything running on the today screen and the app you are running. I have a minimalist today screen with just spb time, windows date plugin, O2 meters, and messaging. and keyboard light is on in less than 2 seconds

I found that htc home slowed the device down quite a bit, and looked awful in landscape.

Re: Keyboard backlight not turning on after upgrade

Problem solved by turning the screen brightness in setting from lowest to one slot brighter. The whole phone lit up after that (I was changing the setting in a pitch dark room just to make sure it worked.)
Seems like a brightness setting mix up in the software.
