I don't know if I could ever go back to an OEM ROM...I think I'll wait for no2chem to take all the goodies from the offical one and cook them into a custom unit.

I will do the update, the radio in 3.16 is flakey. Can not keep data stream going.

Exactly.....

Until I see that it's been posted, it's still speculation in my book.

well lets see how stable this rom is....

Re: So, the new update is coming...

I'll upgrade to the OEM (since I need to update anyway to get the new radio) and run that for a few weeks while the better custom roms rev up, or better yet a kitchen appears...

I've not had bad luck at all with the 2.17 oem rom - it is pretty feature comparable to the apache kitchen rom base, and with the mogul's overly large internal flash there is less need to cram apps into the rom to make a usable image.

So, I'm likely to eventually move to a custom rom based off wm6.1, since that seems to have better memory management, and you can use a smaller page pool to get a bit more breathing room... but there is no rush...

Re: So, the new update is coming...

I'm really torn on what I will do...

1) I REALLY would love to see what kind of improvements they have made to the stock ROM. I'm a man, I'm completely impatient and won't be able to wait a couple of hours for this!

2) I KNOW I will end up just moving to a custom ROM that I'm betting comes out within hours....no2chem? :)

I will update and then update again when a custom ROM is released.

But ultimately, I think once you find a good custom ROM for your needs, you never stick w/OEMs very long.

BTW- Schettj, I bet most people can't identify who that is in your avatar...I love that movie, but a lot people, like my wife, think that if the movie is made before 1980, it's not worth watching. She would never watch a black and white movie. Too bad.

I'm new to the PPC game...I've had a Treo 700p for two years and just made the jump to the Mogul. I LOVE it so far, but I'm so nervous to put a cooked ROM on it. I did it before with old PPC devices (not phones) but it still makes me VERY nervous. I'll see how this ROM update goes and then I MIGHT do cooked ROM. I'm considering the Simply Everything 900 plan...but want to see what the ROM is like first. I might wait until Sprint TV is available on the Mogul and then do the upgrade. Have unlimited data right now anyway, so I'm doing pretty good.

Dr. Strangelove...It's takes place during the cold war, it deals specifically with the nuclear arms race...I don't wanna say too much...

A Stanley Kubrick classic!

Kubrick is the man. I love his films!

My parents actually came up with my name after watching "2001 A Space Odyssey"

The character 'Dave Bowman' in the film is played by the actor Keir Dullea

:)

I'll roll with the new OEM ROM to see what it's like & be able b*tch about it, then I'll go no2chem when he releases his.

If it does come out, I will wait for the first wave of rants & raves to come in first, and then decide.

Well I already have the unofficial ROM running now and will keep it. The GPS navigation works fine and I'm not getting charged for it so I will keep it that way for a while. When it becomes official they will probably charge for the turn-by-turn. I have had no problems with the unofficial version as of yet, I like it. We'll see

they are going to start charging for gps? how

jowalamar 03-09-2008 03:12 AM

Re: So, the new update is coming...

Not for the GPS itself but for the Sprint/Telenav program.

Re: So, the new update is coming...

I just care about the radio (I'm an Alltel guy) so I'll just watch all you Sprint folks find what's wrong with the official ROM while I wait for DCD to extract the radio and get it working with his WM 6.1 ROM... I can wait a few days for perfection :-)

Off work Monday, already scheduled to flash. But OK, just what IS that movie?

Oops, posted b4 reading all the posts. I LOVE that movie!

Re: So, the new update is coming...

I'll miss the 6.1 threaded SMS but thats not a big deal, im probably texting too much anyway. But yeah, ill upgrade because the radio on 3.16 is terrible. Its constant dropping was causing corruption in the database of a program I sync with a server when on the road and was very frustrating to identify. Second, if im IMing with it, the damn thing cuts off every 10 minutes and has to redial up. I'll be upgrading solely for the radio update.

I am considering joining the online *****fest to see what's up with this new radio, though I have been spoiled by DCD's custom roms and nexvision's hybrids.

i know the feeling... i just flashed no2chem's latest build of wm6.1 and i KNOW they're not going to be able to top what he's done, but still the allure slowly sucks me in... i may cave and flash the official just to say i did... ahhh the downsides of being a geek!!!
