Orb to Titan...

For those of us out there who Orb, I am sure you would LOOOOOOVEEE to Orb to your mogul. Has anyone tried this and been successful? Hell has anyone even tried this?

www.orb.com

Stream media (movies, songs, tv) from your computer. You install the application on your computer, and can stream things from the site through WMPlayer for example.

Wow, cant believe fellow geeks dont even know what orb is...i thought it was like already deemed the coolest thing any pirate (YARRRRRRR!!!) can have....

of course i mean 15th century pirate.........

What browser are you using on your phone? I cant seem to login. The login button through IE is misaligned or something, its a free floating graphic, so whenever I try and click it, it does nothing.

It worked alright for me, but at the time we didn't have full EVDO so it was somewhat choppy. I'll have to try it again now that I have EVDO

Re: Orb to Titan...

I use it on a constant basis. I love it and wouldn't dream of not having it. With all the documents that I use at home and need to retrieve while at work and school its amazing. I stream live television from my computer, movies which already exist on my pc, pictures, and the thing that I was most amazed by is the fact that I can use my iTunes as well.

Same here, been using it well over a year now. Once ORB and the Mogul are properly setup there's no need to synch your phone to any media files at home since you can access them in real time over the Internet. Folks always bug out when I start to play live cable TV over my Mogul .... or play any movie from my home DVD collection :D

once again though...how are you accomplishing this? Is there a mobile orb page? What apps are you using? Help me out here.

The login never works but if you go to mycast.orb.com you should be ok. I added the file server in my house to Orb and I watch my movies and TV shows when I am stuck on the train from Baltimore to DC.

There is an option for it to re-detect your bandwidth and (in theory) adjust compression and lower bitrate to make up for it. I notice that when I watch a movie and I go from RevA in Baltimore to a lower signal in DC where there are less Sprint towers it buffers a lot so I re-detect the network speed.

My main issue is that the screen will dim and shut off if I leave it running. I haven't figured out how to stop it from doing that. My GPS program will leave my phone on indefinitely but for some reason I can never get media player programs to do it.

Re: Orb to Titan...

If I am not mistaken, there is an option in WMPlayer to actually disable the dimming and screen shutoff. Or maybe it was in activesync...cant remember, but i think its out there

TCMP is much better for streaming video than WMP. The default setting is to not dim the screen while video is playing.

I used Orb for over a year and was quite happy with it until recently, when I upgraded my Vista to SP1. I could stream live video/audio from my cable box, but my Media Center recorded shows wouldn't play. I have since switched to WebGuide, which I am much happier with. It requires a little more legwork to set up, but is much nicer both in the mobile UI as well as the standard PC browser.

+1 on TCMP. The only way to reliably use ORB with the Mogul is let ORB stream FLV format and use TCMP and the flash plug-in. Much more consistent experience than WMP.

I used orb on my 6700 and now my 6800... sucks down the battery for video though, but who cares right!

I tried using WebGuide on my 2005 MCE, it was worse because I think WebGuide is using a lot more CPU resources (than ORB) to re-encode the video stream on the fly.

But I definitely agree that the mobile UI is much better on WebGuide.

Re: Orb to Titan...

I'm using it and it works pretty good as long as I have a good signal. Otherwise its pretty choppy. I haven't ben able to get live TV to work though, it just keeps buffering and never starts....no biggie though, I don't hardly ever watch TV anyway.....

I do kinda worry about the security of orb though...Id rather have a stand alone app that hosts the files. That way I could use windows authentication and security.

How do you play flash via TCMP? I have the flash bundle for TCMP installed, and can view youtube, google, etc.. but when I try to stream flash via Orb, it always plays in the orb player in the browser, and that's incredibly choppy.

I've been using a demo of Pocket Player 3, and I can stream winamp formats with it; the video is pretty smooth if I have good signal, but if I can get TCMP to work I'd rather use it.

Any tips would be apprecitated.

I used to use it with TCPMP but then I got slingbox. Hands down better for TV watching.

Re: Orb to Titan...

I use it all the time. I have cable at home and a TV tuner so I can watch all of my cable channels for free where ever I am at. It rocks.
