MacBook Question???
I just bought the new Black MacBook. Will i be able to sync my Mogul with it?? if how??
Thanks |
Re: MacBook Question???
there is software out there that you can use to sync with your phone. You should do some searching on google or even apple's website for it.

Re: MacBook Question???
thanks but is there anything free???
|
Re: MacBook Question???
I'd sell your mogul on ebay and get an iPhone if you have gone the Macbook route. You'll get better phone support over the long run unless you are prepared to do a lot of reading.

Re: MacBook Question???
Nothing free... If you're gonna keep the phone chaulk up the $$ and buy MissingSync. I have a Macbook Pro as well. I tried the torrent route myself for MissingSync and couldn't find it free :(

Re: MacBook Question???
I have no idea how well it works, but there is a free program called Syncmate that will supposedly do it.

Re: MacBook Question???
umm...IPHONE=no high speed data, which i think is counter productive in this situation...he wants to use his mogul as high speed modem!!
|
Re: MacBook Question???
I think he was just looking to sync, not use it as a modem. If you want to use it as a modem, just get WMWifiRouter. (Though come to think of it, last time I tried to use that, it didn't work right, not on my Macbook or my PC though)
MissingSync really is what you want to use. Just skip eating out a couple of times and put up the cash for it. |
Re: MacBook Question???
oh sorry i jumped the gun my bad. Clement are you just wanting to sync or use your phone as a modem as well?

Re: MacBook Question???
Another vote for MissingSync. It's worth the price you'll pay to just avoid the frustration. I've had good luck syncing my contacts, calendar, notes, etc. from Office 2008 for Mac. In fact, it's been less problematic than my old Samsung i730 syncing with ActiveSync on my XP machine.... not sure why.
I also tried PocketMac and even after several emails back and forth with their online support and several hours of banging my head on the desk I never could get it to work... Just my $.02. Be prepared with a windows based pc for some .exe program installs through that just don't play nice with Macs. Also if you get into updating ROMs and such a regular pc is nice to have. |

Re: MacBook Question???
I am a recent Mac convert after being on the Windows platform for many years. I am typing on a Macbook right now and I use Mark's MissingSync to connect my Mogul to my iMac and my Macbook.
I am not sure how but MissingSync has worked better with Windows Mobile devices then XP/Activesync ever did. I had nothing but constant sync problems on Windows but on my Macs using MissingSync it's perfect. Also, if you sync your Mogul with your Macbook via Bluetooth you can use your Mogul as a modem with only a few clicks on the Mac. The iphone has the Mogul killed as far as performance and ease of use but the Mogul is much more powerful with the built in GPS receiver and tethering as a modem option. |
Re: MacBook Question???
You could do what I did
Purchase VMWare Fusion Use it to install Windows XP (you need an XP/Vista CD) Activesync that way BUT, if you want to sync your contacts/etc with your mac files (adress book, ical) then missing sync is the way to go. But the way I just mentioned is tons of fun! :) |
Re: MacBook Question???
I love MissingSync, it just works. The only complaint I have is that you can't explore the phone's contents like you can in windows. That makes transferring files over much more difficult. There is a built-in way to transfer some files, but not the same as using explorer. I tend to use parallels quite often for non-syncing activities.
I have a question for mac users out there: how did you get your phone to sync via bluetooth? I haven't had any luck pairing my vzw xv6800 with my leopard macbook pro. I used to dial-up through my lg8700 through bluetooth just fine, so I know that my computer is capable. Anyone have insight, or a link with insight? Thanks! |
Re: MacBook Question???
Did you try SyncMate? It's also pretty good when it was free!
I also have a macbook / mabook pro and the easiest and quickest way to sync is by USB and tether using WMwifirouter. |

Re: MacBook Question???
I second Patmann's advice. I use Parallels, though (also a purchase, but I use Windows for 3 or 4 specific things). You can also use BootCamp, which comes preloaded on your Mac. The difference between the two is that with BootCamp, you set up a separate partition for Windows, and you have to restart your computer everytime you want to switch between OSX and Windows. With Parallels, you can have them running, well, in parallel. And if you have 2gb of ram in your machine, it runs pretty well. If you need more specific instructions, let me know.

Stock, I'm waiting for Monday's release before I start messing with custom ROMs. Here's the BTFtp I mentioned.

Re: MacBook Question???
I like MissingSync. SyncMate works well too but overwrites some of MissingSync's settings. So go with one or the other, they don't play nice together.
