Why Aren't People Using WM5?

To tell you the truth, I've probably gone through every rom on this website, and non of them suits me better than Sampsons WM5 rom.

Sure 6.1 had Threaded SMS and then 3.16 had GPS in there, I really wish I had those with the other roms, but still,
Wm5 has the SPEEEED. No memory leaks either, I soft reset at about 24mb with HTC home running some other things.

The switching from portrait to landscape is done in about half a second to a second, and I barely need to soft reset, its really stable.

And HTML Email? Hah, Wm5 checks for new emails in a max of about 10 seconds.
Everything is silky smooth, so why don't people use it?

I had no problems with WM5. I can do without the HTML email, since I wanted push and don't have an exchange server I'd have to rely on a 3rd party app anyway, like flexmail or profimail. I know that windows live hotmail pushes email to you, but I use gmail and don't feel like having everyone switch email addresses again. I know I could forward my gmail to hotmail, but don't want to double up all of my email and have to delete from multiple accounts.

The biggest reason I don't use it is because WM5 doesn't support SDHC.
I tried a couple of the WM5 roms and the SDHC drivers and couldn't get it to recognize my 6GB or 8GB cards. I would rather have the storage capacity than the small speed improvement.

As far as RAM goes, DCD's 1.7 clean ROM boots with almost 26MB of Free RAM and is very stable.

The memory might be reading less, but WM6 manages the memory much much better when you are running a lot of proggies.

1999TL, that is true, however if you have a program that needs 15MB of RAM and Windows is only reporting 12MB to be free, even if its just cached, that program won't run...

There are free exchange syncing services available for those who do want exchange sync capabilities. One such services is mail2web. No cost...is free for general use. You can access your account via OWA or via OMA (device sync). For POP access there is a fee per month which I believe is 5.00ish per month?

That's pretty good considering its wm6,
Most of the time with Wm5 on the mogul, I reset at 31mb now.

i build most of my stuff into the rom. the personal oemizer (many kudos) is a big help. it may just be me but it seems like the programs use less when they're built in. dunno

yeh i flashed helmi's wm6 rom from the kitchen and have a few programs and i always have about 24 - 30 mb free in my program memory. when i had wm5, it was a little faster starting up but slower....waaaay slower when it came to running apps, button response, and even using the phone and keyboard. And i switch to landscape in roughly a second. hardly any lag

i want the windows mobile 10 with the advanced brain intergration systems. Basically it will do whatever i want it to simply by just thinking it. So if i am think that someone is a @$$ then it will send a text message to that person saying so. If i think i want to listen to Bach #6 then it will play it. I also cant wait to see how the advanced logic systems works were it basically thinks what i want it to do before i even knowe what i want it to do. For example if it sees me calling someone and leaving very hurtfull messages and curse words then it will do just that based on my previous behaviour! By the way my phone made this posting and not me at least i think so,

Re: Why Aren't People Using WM5?

I loved sampsons WM5 rom. Boots fast, runs faster than WM6 and has plenty of memory to spare. I could even use Picsel (the memory hog) with no out of memory errors. youtube videos worked. All was well and good...... UNTIL I TRIED TO MAKE MY SDHC 6GB card work... no drivers nothing. Data was only partially accessible. I wanted to have GPS on, Rev A and use 6GB and higher micro SD cards. So I went back to flashing ROMS and settled on No2Chems NueRom2 WM6.1. Fast, uses memory up faster, but rarely get memory out errors. Picsel no longer works, but my download speeds are >1.35 Mbps, GPS works great with Iguidance 4 on my memory card. So a compromise.

I would happily go back to WM5 if SDHC driver, Rev A and GPS functionality were built into the ROM.

That's because the program sucks. Programs shouldn't check reported free memory, they should just take what they need and let Windows worry about free ram. That is, after all, the whole point of it.

Id say half the time i had to reset the phone to use gps even after cleaning with BOTH memmaid and oxios. By that time i was already on the road and said screw it and didnt even bother with the gps. IMO gps is useless feature if the nav program wont even run because of too little memory. Ill wait for gps update for the Touch and have it how I need it to be. I refuse to pay another $100-150 for new gps software for a phone that in underpowered due to HTC's undersight. I just got my money back by selling it for the same price and no harm no foul. But i will never buy another 64mb wm6 device ever again, even if it was free. theyre unusable in my personal opinion how i use it

Hah, iGo was ****ty in that regard. I got OnCourse (actually, a slightly updated version of iGo) and it starts fine, even with 8MB free.

Hmm, is there a way to use WM5 but still use the 3.35 radio?
