Just this week, amAze launched the beta version of their *free* gps software for windows mobile phones. Doesn't seem like all of the features are enabled yet, but it runs on my ppc-6800 (using bluetooth gps receiver) and includes spoken turn-by-turn directions.

I use TomTom as well, but I figured I would give this a try to see how it performed, and I could not get it to see the GPS, even when I had GPS viewer running with locked satellites. I registered and posted on their feedback forum, so well see how this turns out.

I don't know why it's giving you trouble, but, for what it's worth, I'm using a holux m1200 BT gps receiver on COM port 4 and have the security authentication set to off. I let the receiver get a fix before I used the gps scan tool, but it sounds like you're doing that already.
