Ways to free Memory/speed up the Mogul?

Ok, I know that the easiest way to speed up the PPC is to remove all unnecessary programs, but what fun is that? :)

I currently have these programs installed:

HTC HTC home
emunutz HTC Home Customizer
A__C Slide2Unlock
C. Ghisler & Co. Total Commander
Skunkworks FlashVideoBundle
TCPMP
Google Maps
codyppc performance booster
Lonely cat game Slick
Opera Mini
Opera Mobile

Even after a fresh soft reset I only have 24 MB of memory free. After running Opera it generally drops down to 10 or so MB. Are there any utilities that are useful to make the Mogul run any faster safely, or free up memory? Does having programs installed to the memory card help speed the phone up?

Remember your pushing a bus with a lawnmower engine here, these devices work very well but aren't snappy fast. As long as you have RAM space available your PPC should run fine, I have 21 programs loaded to the device on my Mogul with 20 MB of RAM free after a reset. Everything runs well on my Titan with few lockups. Some programs run fine once installed on the storage card but remember programs that update or have anything to do with the today screen need to be loaded to the device. This is because when a PPC goes to sleep it will deactivate the storage card and when it wakes up the storage card can lag behind the OS causing problems.

download oxios memory programs its free and frees up your ram.also you need a task manager just go to a free ware site they have task managers as far as the eye can see. and download memmaid. even though it isnt free its worth the buy for your program memory it will keep you from running out of it and having to hard reset.

also you can use performance plus cab for overclocking. i ahve my titan overclocked to 624mhz and rus perfect without overheating or freezing up. never even had one problem with it and neither have the hundreds of people that have installed it over there. warning though it seems toonly work for cdma phones and notf gsm phones and will be found under settings/system once installed. the program can be foud here by doing a search.

that's a great point... Is there any way to check to see which programs are running from the card and which are running from the internal memory?

Re: Ways to free Memory/speed up the Mogul?

Ok, I installed S2U and HTC home to my internal.

I'm going to install oxios to see if it helps.

What's the point of memmaid?

Edit:

Big D5: What are you running to keep your RAM so free?

Re: Ways to free Memory/speed up the Mogul?

MemMaid is IMHO a must have if you load a lot of test programs MemMaid will clean the bad registry items left when something is removed. It has a cleaning scheduler so you can have it clean your PPC once a day. Has a very powerful REG editor so no need for another program to do this, all around great program. So to answer your question I use a combination of Quick Menu/Hibernate utility, MeMaid and GibbsUSA.net Auto Reset.

1) MemMaid/ Not free has a free trial

2) Quick Menu/ Free

3) GibbsUSA.net Auto Reset/ Free

Hope that helps

Uninstall the codyppc performance cab...while it does speed things up, you sacrifice a lot of RAM by using it.

Re: Ways to free Memory/speed up the Mogul?

I just wanted to point out that installing programs to external storage does not help free up RAM. RAM and ROM on a WiMo device (wm5 and later) operate as RAM and HDD operate on a computer. It doesn't matter where the programs are installed. RAM is only occupied by currently running programs. Any executable code no matter where it is stored must be copied into RAM to be executed. Running programs also allocate RAM for runtime use. Once a program is done executing it should free the memory it is using, then the copy of it in RAM is destroyed. A memory leak is when a program does not free all the memory it had in use before it exits (due to programming mistakes). Memory leaking is the main reason why as the day goes on our free memory goes from sad to tearful.

Here is what I have said before about where to install what programs:

For the most part, officially you can install programs on either the internal memory or on an SD card... but in practice, you will want to choose where you will install them. Programs running from internal memory will run faster, but there is only so much internal memory available. The SD card has the advantage of a huge amount of space, but programs will take longer to load. Here are the guidelines that I use to decide where to install a program:
  1. If it is a program or utility that is going to be used on the Today screen, a system utility (i.e. memory management, file explorer, email client, internet browser, etc.), or a program that I know I will use on a daily or regular basis, I will install it in internal memory.
  2. If it is something like a game, needs a huge amount of space, something that I know I will not use on regular basis, etc... I will install it on my SD card.
  3. There are also programs that you can install where the program in internal memory and then save the data it uses on an SD card, ex. a GPS program goes in internal memory and the maps on the SD card or an email client in internal memory while setting it to save all emails and attachments on my SD card. With this stuff, it's usually fine to install the program to main memory.
  4. If it is something that has a high amount of personal information, i.e. something like Splash ID, I will install it in internal memory because I can lose my SD card fairly easy, but it is harder to lose just my internal memory.

Can anyone back this up? I definitely saw a large increase in battery life from it...

Yeah... I can, which is why I recommended you do it. With it installed, my available RAM went from 19MBs down to 14MBs. Unintsalled it, and went backup.

Search the forum, there is a whole thread dedicated to codyppc's app.

So this is a true and accurate statement? I could over clock my 6700 but not my 6800?

BigD

I just got my brand new ppc6800/mogul from Sprint today and before w/6700 used Total Commander and therefore didnt allow the Sprint programs to load that i didnt want. Is this possible with the 6800? Will this free up Internal RAM?
