Can somebody give me a hand with this? For some reason my messaging notification on my htc home screen and the stock plug in are showing four emails in my inbox while there are zero in all my mailboxes. I've totally cleared my inboxes for all accts. ](*,)

That file didn't seem to work for me. I have the SMS as well as the text messaging notification. My SMS will say I have 3 new messages, meanwhile I dont have any, and when I go back to my today screen, all of a sudden it's back to zero. The count is randomly posted even without me having received new messages. This is happening for both my SMS messaging and Text. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

benoldcrap 02-13-2008 09:55 PM

that file also didn't do anything for me either. my message count is still at 1 even though there are no new messages. are there any other solutions for resetting the message count?

yeah...the application ran fine, and it said ok next to everything as it went through all of the folders, but my text count is still at 1. I'm about to upgrade to a newer 6.1, so hopefully when I restore my inbox, it goes away. If it doesn't though, it would be nice if there was a way to clear that out.

ok my last suggestion is to go to hkcu/system/state/messages in the registry...there u will find all the accounts...when u open one of them u will see the folder unread..inside there is a key that says count...change that to 0 and u should be good.
hope this helps,

cool thank you very much for your help, dwizzy130! oddly enough, after reflashing, I restored my inbox, and there was in fact an unread message...which, I'm guessing, is why the program was unable to clear it out. for some reason, I was unable to view that message with my old rom, but it was hiding somewhere in my inbox. thank you again tho...hopefully that will help someone else.

Strange... I used to use this on my PPC6700 and it worked like a charm.

on my 6800, I had it stuck at 3 unread count... ran the program.. they were still there... so I S/R and now the count is accurate...

any ideas?

Re: How do you Clear messaging value on today screen

I am having the same problem. It says I have 4 unread text maessages but when I go to view them, there are 0 - there is NOTHING in the outbox, inbox, sent, drafts, templates etc.

I have searched the forms - I went in the registry and under HKCU/system/state/messages - EVERYTHING listed for unread (MMS,sms, other email, sync) says 0. I tried looking at other areas in the registry trying to find if there is another location that these messages are showing up but wasnt able to find anything. Common Sense would think that if the unread count is at 0 - it would show up at 0 BUT something is caught up in cache mode or is stuck somewhere.

I tried running the program(fix unread count posted on this site) - it says ok on clearing MMS, Yahoo, Gmail, SMS etc BUT the 4 unread text messages still show up - even after a soft reset.

The messages will show up whenever I do a soft reset. I hit the text message button and it will change it to 0 BUT it will NOT change below.

I did notice that if I go to the today settings and uncheck messaging, it wont show 4 unread messages BUT I like having that option enabled because I can see how many emails I have for Yahoo,Gmail etc.

I have read posts that after a period of time, they will go away and have read that most people had to do a hard reset to fix the issue.

I recently bought mem maid (for the quick clean) and pocket mechanic hoping one of those programs would be able to clear the problem but it didnt.

I would wonder what happens to cause this to happen.

Re: How do you Clear messaging value on today screen

This has happened to me before, with a message that an sms in box message wouldn't become read, erased, or moved no matter what I did. So I removed the battery for about 15-20 mins, put it back in, powered up, and the message was gone! Give it a try cuz for some reason, that seemed to have worked for me!

Re: How do you Clear messaging value on today screen

I unplugged the battery before I went to bed last night and then plugged it in this morning when I woke up. The messages were still there.

I then tried uninstalling the threaded SMS. rebooted my phone - reinstalled it and the messages are still there.

i will try a different htc home plug in

i tried the registry trick for this, i have 32 unread messages, tried fix unread count, nothing is working. I don't know where this value is being retrieved from, but it's very annoying.

I had to change the unread\count value for both OtherEmail and TotalEmail in the key mentioned above to 0 in order to fix this problem for me.

Re: How do you Clear messaging value on today screen

i've tried just about everything but hard resetting. i'd rather not do that, but my SMS count always remains at 1. I tried the software to no avail, the registry edit works temporarily (until a new message is received), but i'm thinking a hard reset is my only option.... hopefully someone's found a trick and will share :)

Same thing here. Stuck with 1 unread text msg and tried resetting the reg to 0 and it doesn't do anything. I only just installed the new 6.1 last week. This is silly

I had the same thing and it wouldnt go away. I ended up removing the CodyPPC SMS program and there were 2 text messages sitting there plain as day. I have yet to re-install the Cody SMS application so if anyone knows of another threaded SMS app that will run on the 6800 please let me know :)

I have the same problem, but it is going on in my hotmail...I check the real comp and there is NOTHING there, but I go to my inbox and there is NOTHING there, BUT when I log into MSN live, it tells me that there is an unread email in my inbox...

I then emptied my entire inbox and synced and removed battery for @15 minutes + a soft reset. To my amazement, MSN said I still have an email but nowhere else confirms that (except my HHC Today Screen)...I was gonna call tech support about it because it is really annoying, then I saw this thread, then I read the thread, and I will call tech support tomorrow...](*,)](*,)](*,)

Re: How do you Clear messaging value on today screen

Sorry to bring an oldish thread back but figured it may help since I hadn't seen that anyone had tried this.

I had the same issue and found the .zip file that was posted on the first page. When I ran it, it went through the list and said everything was ok but when I exited, the notice was still there. I then pushed "all messages">"menu">"tools">"clear sms/mms" then exited to the home screen and it was gone. I had tried the clearing of sms/mms before with no success so I'm assuming it was the combination of the .zip file and the clearing that did the trick.

Thanks to dwizzy130

Re: How do you Clear messaging value on today screen

What file should I download? I've tried the FixUnreadCount and nothing. Then tried the ResetUnreadCount, and after sending a message the error came back. HTC recommended fixunreadcount_951, found out after downloading it, it was the same as FixUnreadCount.
