how the hell do people do this?...
i have seen people plug their phone up to a computer, and all of a sudden have internet acces on their laptap... how do you do this, and do i need to have anything extra on my cell phone bill...
|
As long as you have unlimited data you can use something like PDANet.
It installs on your phone and on the PC. Click connect on the phone and voila, you have internet through your evdo connection. |

I'm going to go on a limb and say that if you search for "pdanet" on google and click on the first result, you will have all your questions answered.

i'll go out on a further limb and ask since it says it requires a TREO... a treo in which i dont have... how can i get it to work... why do people gotta act like such dickheads on this site... people aint as stupid as you think... just cuz you THINK you know a lil bit about a damn phone dont mean you can try to embarrass people wit questions... |
Uh, look at the link I posted...
There's a WM version. |
Have you tried "Internet Sharing" in your Programs folder? It works for me, I use it all the time
|
Internet Sharing works for me as well.
|
For some phones, people have an issue where there is some sort of tethering logic that doesn't allow internet sharing to work without the correct plan.
So PDANet is a work around if you get that issue. |

use internet sharing that is already on your phone. there is a reg. hack that you need to do. search these boards and youll find it. if you don't know how to edit your reg., take a deep breath and read. i don't want to sound mean, but there is sooo much info on this board that can answer all of your questions. just take a little time and do the reading. after that if your still having problems, then come back and ask.
once you get good at tethering, look up "wmwifirouter" it will blow your mind. |

does it matter that i have the power vision plus pack?... i just called the sprint rep (and recieved the best customer service I HAVE EVER RECIEVED FROM A SPRINT REP) and she told me that i didnt have the kinda plan that allows me to do that... my plan is just internet and text messages... does that matter... |
I think this is the hack for InternetSharing. On a Stock Sprint Rom
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] Then Delete "Extension"="rilphone.dll" then change "MaxCMCon.... from 1 to 0.. |

my maxcmcon... is already set to 0 |

sprint knows when your connected to the net, but there is discussion on weather after using the above reg hack if sprint can tell if your using your phone to watch youtube or your laptop. there is no guarantee, but people have downloaded gigs of data a month without any charges from sprint. in fact i don't think i've ever heard of anyone getting charged for this ever (as long as they set up there phone right). |
i just go to "internet sharing" thats included with the phone, and select Sprint PCS instead of PAM and never have any issues or extra charges. I tether mine all day will im at work, no registry changing or anything

So next time use WMWIFIRouter and let everyone share the bits. Tell the guy using the USB to connect his phone that he is not being polite by hogging bandwidth.

How do you set up internet sharing? I tried but dont know what settings to use.
do i use "sprint" or "my work network" and where do i go from there step by step. I have never done this before and have no clue on how so be kind :-) thanks |
I've had PDAnet since my treo 700w (yeah, I bought one of those..).
It works fantastic! Absolutely worth the price IMO. |
is there freeware that does the same thing as pdanet?
|
I use USB Modem. It costs a little less and is a little less invasive. You can try WMWIFIRouter if you are using wireless lan. This is a free program (donations encouraged). If you appreciate this post, lysolflow, the favor you can return is using respectful language on the forum because my 13 year old daughter is a PPC Phone apprentice with her own mogul and frequents this forum. Also, I wouldn't judge an entire group of forum dwellers based on the inexperienced blurtings of a member with 3 posts and 2 months on the board. All of us that have been here a while are willing to help without the burden of the humility. Sorry that happened to you, but please check the experience of the poster. If one of these "Senior Members" has something to say, chances are it will be a good guideline for forum conduct. Some of these folks have been around a while and have a lot to offer and some have, already, been spanked by a moderator.

first off, i wanna give official thanks to the fellas that geve me some useful info on this topic... i am in college, so i could never get on limewire or access sites wit any suggestive content... but you guys that helped me out are cool as a fan... especially w eav044... that guy walked me thru everything step by step... if i knew when your birthday was, i'd buy you a 15 dollare gift certificate to mcdonalds... once again, major props to whoeva put they two cents in and gave useful info... and if it wasn't useful, atleast you gave it a try... now... on to the wack people... like this fella above me... bro, ama be honest wit you... if you are offended by your 13 year old daughter reading the word "hell", get ready for a rude awakening, cuz i'm pretty sure she knows a lil more than you think... think about it... she's 13, and on a site this complicated wit technology this advanced... i couldn't teach this to my 24 year old cousin... i'm 18, and i'm astonished by what youger children know about technology and how aware they really are... i aint tryin to tell you how to raise yo kids, but you prolly need to worry less about tryint to shield everything from her, and worry more about teachin her to distinguish between right and wrong and knowing not to go wrong... if she sees something bad like the word "hell" , she should know that she shouldn't say it... |

Dont just pop off with some derilickt answer like that, what im looking for is someone who can actually "help" not be a smart ass. if you have "no" help then "dont" reply, its a pretty basic forum rule and or rule of life |

(feel like I'm talking to my 13 year old, now)....... a good rule to follow on a forum is to use language you would use when you speak to your grandmother (probably some of those reading, as well. Gee, mister. My college age daughter doesn't use any of this language, but regardless, this is a public site and I am just asking for a little common courtesy. I even offered some help for internet connection in my post, but I also offered a little advice to keep you in the good grace of the moderators. Can't you take it as friendly advice instead of an attack? No need to respond, but you may if you beleive you have to have the last word, sir. matt |
Somebody told you how, remove the extension registry entry, and do it.
|
Quote:
AGAIN!!! there is absolutely NO help from you...... Good God man if i knew what or how to remove a freakin registry extention do you think I would be wasting my time talking to you !!!! Please dont help anymore because your NOT helping. SOMEONE with at least half a brain (that excludes you baffles...obviously) must know how to do this because obviously Baffles is just trying to up his post numbers or is trying to pick a fight. I just tried pdanet and it says that my wm version is not supported. |

Where is a moderator when you need one........lysolflow, your a moron, and you need to spit whats in your mouth out.......jazz, people dont talk according to your particular vernacular so you cant go telling people what to do because when you do you get these brainless morons like lysolflow retorting you like he did....you brought that on your self.
NOW BACK ON TOPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! PHONES!!!! REMEMBER!!! thats why we are all here. |
How the hell is this thread still going...

google WMwifirouter. the creator has disabled it on his website for some reason but you can do some digging and you'll find it. basically turns your phone into a wireless access point. all you have to do is find it, install it, and run it. but like others have said this is a public forum and not your house. respect the people who run the joint and their rules. you seriously need to do your research and read up about how your phone works. everyone started there and thats how we all learned.
