Sprint Software Update Today 1.30.08

I called Sprint regarding a billing isssue but while I was on hold it prompted me that I wass receiving a new service update to my phone. My mogul also gave me a status window saying it will reboot.

Does anyone know anything about this update and was it just for Mogul or all handsets? Just curious what they did.

Guess that explains why my service was so spotty today. Seriously I was getting no bars in a lot of places. Nice Job Sprint.

yea those updates arent really a good idea...it did those updates on my mogul about a month ago when i called to pay my bill...afterwards my phone was real slow, reception was poor and had bad lag...phone also kept freezing up causing me to soft reset...took it into to a sorint store and the guy told me it happens alot...they had to clear storage on my phone...

I have 60610 after the 3.16 update, should I go back to 60611? If so, how do I do that?

Synned 01-30-2008 11:11 PM

If the PRL is bad, can you hardreset back to the old one?

Has been that way for the last few days downtown, have spotted a few Sprint techs walking/driving around checking readings on equipment....... they don't talk much.....

Actually, hard resetting does reset the PRL to the version shipped in the ROM.

A PRL will do nothing (positive or negative) to native service except in the rarest of circumstances.

I agree.I think a PRL update only tells your phone the preferred towers to roam off of.

CozBoogie 01-31-2008 05:39 PM

Exactly. PRL=Preferred Roaming List. And as AnthroMatt said...it's very rare that updating your PRL will affect your phone in any way.

late,
Coz

Correct.

The only time a new PRL would effect native service is if a new SID is created or acquired (such as when Sprint took over Qwest's network in places). Qwest SIDs were switched from "Roam" to "Home" in the subsequent PRLs, but that is about the only time I can think of when a PRL will change much for native service.

Cell companies only have themselves to blame for this...they "market" PRLs as a way to get new towers, when in reality they could throw up 1,000 new towers a day and so long as the SIDs are already in the PRL, the phone will "see" the new towers without any kind of update.

At least I am not the only one - the amount of calls I have been dropping down there is a PITA recently.

not sure i got it too!!!!!

donnatn 02-02-2008 07:27 PM

Shouldn't we be able to download the newest PRL from Sprint? I got it from that web site but it seems like there should be a way to get it from the mother ship:)

integra144 02-02-2008 08:25 PM

it was a PRL very sure, mine just did that and it was a PRL I requested after reading a post here saying I would get better reception.

0pen 02-02-2008 08:35 PM

is the recent PRL update the reason I can no longer rom on the verizon network anymore im running the test rom w/ gps and rev a. I was able to roam on verizon before but now i cant. i get an error recording saying its unable to verifify my cellular number.

meatlocker 02-02-2008 08:38 PM

If you are having a problem roaming, make sure you are dialing the area code plus the number, even for local calls. This fixed it for me.

I had that too, a quick call to sprint, they re-provisioned me, and now its fine.
