WifiWMRouter - Undetectable?
 

Hey,

Just want to make sure before I start using it since I wasn't able to find a clear answer.

Sprint doesn't charge people for tethering using this right? You don't get billed their crazy $40 extra for tethering? This is more of a workaround?

I used it for about a week over christmas break, and my bill hasnt gone up at all. Just got a bill the other day, so I am fairly sure they don't detect it. I say, "don't" because they CAN detect it if they wanted to, but they dont seem to. I am on the SERO plan BTW, so I have unlimited date and all those goodies.

Thanks for the quick response. Yea, I have unlimited data as well, so might as well put it to good use.

I was curious about this too...So it is confirmed that there's no extra charge for this??

P.S. - How has it taken me so long to find such a sweet APP?

Being detected or not being detected is not a question at all.

Simply put, if you use Gigs and Gigs of worth data they will know you are connected to another device and using data/packets (whatever you want to call it)

Your little phone with the amount of memory and cache it has it will not do things you would be able to do with your laptop/PC

it is really simple to tell but someone need to be looking for specific things when it comes to catching people that are doing such things.

Sprint maybe aware of this issue and simply choose to overlook it or if enough people start doing this, it will get on their radar.

In my opinion, they do not need to run any detection software to figure out who's tathering and who is not.

You bill shouldn't go up if you're tathering, what can happen though is that hey would call you or send you a letter stating that you need to cut that crap or subscribe to a tathering plan.

Tathering, WifiRouter and rest of the tools that are out there simply do this..

Laptop PC -> requests data
Request from your phone -> Forwards the request to the internet
Inter sends it back -> to the phone
phone sends it back to -> laptop PC

its very simple from a network engineers perspective.

basically, don't be stupid and download bunch of data that are gigs and gigs of worth, then you will be ok. that's the general consensus. But even if you are "caught", I am guessing they will just tell you not to do it, versus jacking up your bill.

Translation:
surfing the internet: OK
downloading gigs and gigs of HD content: maybe not quite

Although I agree with the above posters' premises, I believe that gigs of data would be ok by today's standards. Back before evdo, we used to tether and keep it under a gig/month to stay under the radar. Now with apps like slingplayer, youtube flash bundle, and especially hulu mobile (not released yet), multiple gigs of data can EASILY be used without ever tethering whether via usb or wifirouter. Meaning, I feel that a few gigs a month should go undetected. If you're slinging through your phone, you're downloading a ****load of data. Legally.

Any idea how much data Xbox live (Call of Duty 4, Halo 3) transfers on average?
