Running Visual GPS vs Holux GPS Viewer does not affect the speed of your GPS finding satellites, it just primes/starts your GPS so it's usable by other applications. Using QuickGPS, in theory, should make satellite acquisition faster.

Ok this is weird. I soft resetted after installing the QuickGPS and GPSView.. At the top to the left of my EV indicator was a sattelite dish icon. My left soft key said notification but clicking on it did nothing. I did another soft reset but it didn't come back and hasn't come back since.

That was probably QuickGPS giving a notification that a data download attempt failed. QuickGPS has a setting to automatically attempt to download new satellite data on expiration of old data. Have you run QuickGPS manually to see if it downloads the data correctly? If not, make sure to read the entire FAQ section dealing with QuickGPS.

I'm saying one program works much faster in general at spotting them than the other. With Visual GPS I'm getting a signal in a matter of seconds and with Holux I have to wait.

BTW, Visual GPS is using less than 60k of memory while running in the background.

You have to load the new leaked test ROM.

If you're running XP, look here:

If you're running Vista, look here:

To Prevent possible problems with your phone, after the update, that some are experiencing:
Make sure you record your MDN and MSID, by going your dialer and ##MSL# (where MSL is your unique MSL code for your phone).

The MSL unlock code is used for programming your phone yourself, and is unique for every phone. You can retrieve the MSL for your phone by using the GetSPC application. It's essentially a keygen that calculates what the MSL should be from the hexadecimal ESN (case-sensitive). You can get your hexadecimal ESN from several places including the back of your device if you remove the battery. You can download GetSPC from HERE. Otherwise you can call Sprint technical support, tell them you're a developer, and you need the MSL number for your phone.

Also, go to your dialer and dial ##3282#, your MSL is the unlock code, then make sure you record the settings there. The important things are your username and AAA password (HA password should be 'secret').

Hmm, the Holux one is pretty instant for me so there was no reason for me to try something else, what's the CPU usage of Visual GPS when running in the background?
