Mine used to function that way

I have a 6700 upgraded to wm6 and a bluetooth headset adapter. It used to function the way you want. If I was listening to music on the bluetooth headset and hit the power button the screen would go off, but the music would keep playing. The phone button on the headset adapter would even pause and unpause the music while off.

However, I have since reflashed the phone and it no longer does this. I am using the same helmi_c kitchen to build the rom as I did before, with a few different oem programs installed.

I also had the Internet Calling working over the bluetooth. This also no longer works.

Does anyone know how to get this back???

How about just pressing power. You didn't say whether you were using bluetooth or not. I have the stock 2.17 ROM on 6800. While using BT and listening to music I just press power to turn the screen off. Phone still functions fine so do remote functions. No regedits.

I've been trying to figure this out for the longest time! I never thought to scroll down the buttons list.

Thank you.

Well if you have the HTC audio manager and today screen plugin, you can hit the power button and it will keep playing.
