sprint is replaceing my mogul.

Well for some reason my phone's keyboard was all wacked out.... I'd be typing and it would put in random characters... plus the back light stopped working.... So i took it to the sprint tech... after reflashing and relocking my spl... And they looked at it for about an hour and told me they'd get me a brand new one.... pretty cool... I'd have to say they have some great customer service.... verizon wouldn't even get close to that... i used to have them.

ishdrewnikka 01-15-2008 04:59 PM

i work for sprint as the sr tech and i say you got lucky... i would have never done that. and if the had to order you one, then its a refurb phone

Bleek0323 01-15-2008 05:16 PM

wow thats pretty messed up dude.

good thing u didnt get this guy

slvrap1 01-15-2008 05:27 PM

Dont hear many good stories from sprint customer service:thumbright:

halcyoncmdr 01-15-2008 06:19 PM

Out of curiosity... did you have insurance on your phone?

Why wouldn't you have done that? If it was a hardware defect, I would be shoving the phone up your ass if you didn't order me a new one. And not a refurb. I got a shitty new phone, I expect a new phone to replace it, not somebody elses fixed piece of shit.

papped 01-15-2008 06:53 PM

Doesn't seem like it would be hard to get a CSR to replace your phone in this circumstance, even without insurance.

Doesn't matter what you want, standard is a refurb. You gave them a used phone that didn't work, they replace it with a used phone that does. That's pretty much standard, whether we like it or not.

Otherwise, though, the supposed Sprint senior does sound relatively douche-esque if he's suggesting he wouldn't replace an obviously bad phone at all. If he's just poorly wording the fac that he would have given you a refurb, though, then he's absolutely correct.

papped 01-15-2008 07:20 PM

Yeah a refurb would be standard. I dunno why so many people are anti refurb. You could just as easily get a lemon new unit compared to a lemon refurb.

dschoenike 01-15-2008 07:22 PM

im curious also. do you have insurance on the phone? personally speaking, id be pretty bummed to find out that i'd get a refurb if my new mogul broke. :( i wish i knew more information about sprints insurance on their phones.

schettj 01-15-2008 07:27 PM

I like my mogul referb. I wonder how many of them are just cleaned and shipped back, after people give up on them?

I'll take another referb in exchange for my other 6700 if any sprint folks are listening ;)

Joeriginal 01-15-2008 07:53 PM

All swaps are refurbs, the only possible way they break open a box and give you a new phone for your defective one is if there are no refurbs available for that phone, which is what happened with my ppc-6700, and they gave me a Treo 700wx, which I went back and swapped back for the 6700 when one was available, which I went and talked them into giving me a refurb 6800 after I got two straight lemon 6700 refurbs, and thats where Im at now.

this is usually the cry fest i get everyday. if its past 30days then all you will get is me pooping a refub on your chest. i broke the screen on my mogul around christmas time and got a refurb back and im completely happy with it. people tend to over react about cell phones. you got to remember... its just a phone!

Phreddo 01-15-2008 08:15 PM

i had a busted button on my mogul, and they gave me a brand new one, in the box, with all the accessories.
yay me!

Joeriginal 01-15-2008 08:22 PM

Dude I bought my brothers 6700 for 200 over a year ago, and since then I havent paid for a single new phone, and Ive had the Treo, and the 6800 for free, so if you have sprints insurance and are complaining about getting a refurb hop on to any other carriers plan, and see what kinda hoops youll have to jump through to get your phone replaced.

willyksu 01-15-2008 08:28 PM

I am on my 4th mogul.....:silent: Took the other 3 in because I had a bad flashing of a rom. Then found out just couple days ago that power+camera+reset puts me back to the bootloader. doh.](*,)

asquad 01-15-2008 08:40 PM

I absolutely love sprint's customer care. I am on my 3rd mogul now.

KINYA 01-15-2008 08:51 PM

It helps 100%. If you DON'T have insurance, they will tell you to send it to the manufacturer.

Nope.

You take it to a sprint service center, not just any sprint store. Ask them how much to repair it. The answer is... $35-$50. Say yes, you wish for them to repair it. If they can't repair it, they will offer to replace it with a referb for that price. $7/mo is $84/yr. Unless you plan on getting yours stolen, or replacing it more then once a year, its a pretty bad deal.

willyksu 01-15-2008 09:28 PM

Was not used to this, was with alltel before and had tons of customer service problems.

This happened with my dad's ppc-6700, the battery would not stay in and took it to service center, and they gave him the 6800.
He came back with with the same phone as me.

Pretty cool of em them, and there is no insurance on our plan.

bkhoste 01-15-2008 10:14 PM

Remember, you are just a Customer Service Rep. Key word, CUSTOMER, with an attitude like yours you should have been fired your second day.

ishdrewnikka 01-15-2008 10:27 PM

with the $7 insurance even if its lost or stolen you still have to pay $50 to get a replacement. those all go through a company called asurion and they send you a refurb phone too. sprint offers the 2 phone protection plans separately for $4 each so you might consider getting just one instead of both

halcyoncmdr 01-15-2008 11:25 PM

As long as you have the correct insurance plan on your phone, replacing the phone or ordering a replacement is not uncommon at all. Most of the time it will be a replacement refurb, however, if they don't have one in store, and the warehouse doesn't either (unlikely for just about all phones) then you will get a replacement new phone.

Or if you're withing your first 30 days, it will be a new phone most likely, but it will count as your one and only exchange opportunity.

I highly recommend getting the insurance on your phone, especially if it is a smartphone. If for any reason there is water damage, or if it gets stolen or lost, would you rather pay a $50 deductible? Or if you aren't eligible for upgrades, pay a lot more pretty much anywhere else.

While the insurance may seem like a rip when you think of it as $84 a year, look at it this way:
The price of a new Mogul retail is $549.
Insurance for 22 months until your next rebateeligibility, including the $50 deductible, is $204.
Which would you rather pay if your phone gets stolen or water damaged and you have to buy a new one?

Total tool...

Bobby_x23 01-16-2008 12:05 AM

When I first got my PPC6700, I had a problem after 4 months with my mini USB Plug on the phone, it wouldnt charge the battery what so ever. I took it to Sprint tech and they replaced it with a brand new one right from a box, I had no insurance but their service was excellent. I dont know if it was because I am a Business client or what, but they seemed to be helping me all the way.

wasupwithuman 01-16-2008 02:36 AM

i have insurance... and from what i know... im getting a brand spankin new one... not a refurb.... so ill let you guys know what happens when it gets here...

halcyoncmdr 01-16-2008 02:39 AM

Once you get the new phone, post the SKU that it has. If they ordered you a phone, then it probably will come in a little white or brown cardboard box. If you can, see what the SKU on that says... That SKU itself will tell you whether it is a refurb or a new one.
