Sharing files between 6800 and Windows XP Home
I have a PPC 6800 and Windows XP Home on a private wired/wireless network at home and can't figure out how to copy/access files between the two. Although I've been using PCs for a long time, when it comes to networking, I'm pretty much a n00b.
I've made a couple of folders on my PC as "shared" folders. I've also installed Total Commander on my phone and have accessed its "LAN" feature. When it asks for the share network path, I'm at a total loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Easy as pie
You're simply going to enter the network path for that shared folder. For example, if the name of the networked computer is "Pentium" and the folder is "MogulFun", the path you would use is "\\Pentium\MogulFun" (minus the quotes).
Alternately, you could enter just the networked computer's name (ie. "\\Pentium"), and all shared folders available on that computer should theoretically be listed. For me, though, that's not been entirely reliable on the Mogul -- specifically in the case of folders shared on different drives on the networked computer. Either way, give it a whirl and let me know if that helps... |
I'll give it a try tonight. Thanks.
To clarify, though, do I need to worry about the computer's workgroup name? Also, if my shared folder is located at H:\PPC_files\shared\ how do I enter that on the PPC? Oh... on my winxp machine do I need to do anything more than turning on file sharing? |
When you share a folder on your desktop, you will specify a share folder name. So the path would be: \\your_computer_name\share_folder_name
