How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
My friend made a video on how to change your housing. Hers was cracked so she just tried to do it and did it. You can watch her video tutorial on You tube. It's split into 3 videos. Here ar the links..

is that a black housing?
|
yes its the black housing
|
where did the black housnig come from I want it. I love it.
|
Looks a little scary to me.
I found this: http://tech-zone4world.com/shop/spri...ng-p-1170.html. Maybe that is where you can get it. I wonder if this would work on a VZW XV6800? The innards should be the same, I would think |

BTW those last 3 minutes were very important, so if you do this you should watch this in its entirety. |
your friend is very brave...lol
|
yea its not alltell. its got the sprint logo.
hmm wonder if I can get this from sprint. |
This was done for a sprint ppc6800 also known as the mogul. I'm not sure if the insides are the same as the sprint's ppc6800 but I know the outside looks the same.
Genjinarro is correct if anyone plans on doing this SEE THE ENDING OF THE PART 3 VIDEO!!! Not sure if it's with this housing only but could be the same for all aftermarket housings. The case was tight and she had to comprimise with double sided tape on the power usb and the top of the vibrator to lift the case just a tiny bit so the vibrator didn't vibrate against the case.the tape has to be long enough to show when you place the backing on. Pocketdoc is correct that is who she purchased it from they also go by gsm4world.us sometimes they use ebay too. ***** nothing was wrong with part 2 video but she noticed she repeated the first few minutes on video 2 anyways she took that one down and here is the new link for video 2... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzGNTJ3TBHw |
This is why I went with the Alltel version.
Everything looks good in black... |
Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
If the Sprint Mogul was black, would we try to make it Grey? I was thinking about this with my Touch, when I wanted the White, Green, Silver housings..

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
What next? I know! I am going to change the housing on my Mogul and add LED lights inside, so that when I open my keyboard red light pours out from the clear housing under the upper portion of the case...

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
Humm, clear battery door and put in running led or black light that blink when the phone rings? :headbang:

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
when replacing the mogul with the new black housing is it possible to only change the front and back cover without having to mess wit the keyboard and other wires in there?
I would definitely pay 50 bucks for this. |

At least, not personally. Black is a great color for devices because not only does it look cool (which is subjective I suppose), but it also tends to make a device look smaller, less vulnerable, and is less revealing to nicks/scratches. The nice thing about the color of the Mogul is that its at least a DARK shade of gray, not the bright silver and chrome scheme of the older HTC devices (Apache, Wizard, etc) which clearly documented every scuff on it. I found myself wanting to replace the body of my HTC Tornado within months of buying it. It is, as always a personal choice sort of thing. But for me, I've replaced the housing of most of my devices with the exception of a black nokia 6230, a black HTC SmartFlip, and a black Sony Ericsson walkman phone. Those all looked perfect to me out of the box. |

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
spray paint.... stay tuned for pics of my custom silicon case ;)
I like the LED idea. just what I want, a pPC that looks like a nokia, works like an ipod, and needs and extension cord. ok, seriously I just wanted to see the insides and where the antenna's were and external jacks for gps/bluetooth/wifi were? that's what I want, direct jack to external antenna for each radio ;) ;) ;) |
Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
It is a long story, but the casing of my mogul was severely damaged. I was able to dismantle and make repairs to bring it back up to operating status, I was more careful than she was with the guts, but the mogul proved surprisingly resilient. The only components that appeared to extremely fragile were the ribbons that connect the screen keyboard and the other periferals.

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
here's a link to the black housing with the sprint logo on the front, and it's still in stock... http://www.gsm4world.us/shop/sprint-...c-210_240.html

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
Just get a black rubberized case like I did. Now your phone is protected and is black, problem fixed.

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
I second Hoof's comment. Although I realize some of us just like to mess with stuff. I really like my seidio case.

Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
Found a vendor selling the Verizon XV6800 full housing on eBay, but it wouldn't come up searching on eBay. it showed up through google.
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Genuine-veri...QQcmdZViewItem What I notice is that it's gray/black instead of blue/black... Gonna ask if that's perhaps a B&W picture. Anyone try swapping xv6800 <> PPC6800 casings? -CC EDIT: seller confirmed the housing is black. |
Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
I bought this case thinking it would be a nice look. I just got it in the mail yesterday and im very dissapointed. The case color looks good in person except for the neon yellow sprint logo.
The steps to change the whole case are very time consuming the first time you do it. Once everything was done though the case had many fit issues. The power button and comm manager button only seem to stick out about half as much as they used to. Theres considerable light leakage on the front of the case anywhere there are seams. The worst thing is the battery cover doesnt fit properly. eveything looks decent but feels crappy. I'm going back to an oem housing once i can find a new one. |
Internal-Antenna missing?
Anyone here actually changed out their housing to a black one?
I got one of the last ones from the site linked here somewhere, before they took it off their site. What I noticed in the subtle differences between an OEM gray sprint housing and the black one they sent was, the keyboard is rubberized which was an obvious difference. But I also noticed that inside the lower half of the case, the black one is missing what looks like to be an antenna connection the rides on the side of the case.. Anyone notice this, and notice a difference in signal with the phone or wireless? thanks, -CC P.S. I'll add pictures after work.. |
Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
How did you get your battery cover to stay on flush?
I've had the housing on for well over a week now and i actually like the looks and feel of it but the fact that i can't get the battery cover all the way on kind of ruins it. Also, reception has been perfect. I havent had any issues. |
Re: How to change ppc6800 (mogul) housing
Thanks for the video! I didn't use them to change my mogul housing but I did use it to fix my green "talk" button.
