Actually,thats why they changed the name. Allot of people were confused so it actually stands for "Data optimized" now. Ive read Rev A does in fact allow mixed data and voice. The real question is,will sprint enable this feature.

You only loose data from a phone call because the device is told to close the gate. Its all in the phone. Someone will fix it soon. It will not be sprint fixing it that is for sure.

somethong like the sidekick does because its ain service does not get shut off but it goes into a standby mode until internet service is back and running again and starts throwin all the im's 2yu

I beleive that's how verizon runs their network also.

still haven't heard back from my friend at lucent but I saw a couple blog posts that say simultaneous voice and data is acheieved becasue the carrier can move the voice to the data channel via VOIP. So it's like having a cable modem (data which carries voice) not dsl (voice and data alongside each other).
