I'm really new to this so please don't be too harsh, ok....will my contacts get deleted when i upgrade my ROM?

Yes, your contacts will be deleted if you update. But when you sync with your computer it will be put back again.

You have much to lean young padawan.

Its called HTC Home its on this site. I suggest the one for HTC Kaiser, and it is a cab file.

Take a look at Sprint Theme Cube + Home + Quicklauncher + Action screen by poorlyduck. You are looking for the HTC Home Plug. Which in included in poorlyduck's post.
As for backing up contacts I would also recommend PPCPIMBackup 2.7 (XDA's web site is down right now)
And you can never have to many backups of your contacts.
