I'm sure they have to be in \Windows versus \Windows\Rings

Text message notifications are not considered 'radio related' in the WM OS. They are just like a popup. And where do popup sounds come from? The \Windows directory in the .wav format

Does it have to be a certain type to detect them?

.wav .wav .wav. wav .wav .wav .WAV!

LOL! You can use a free program called 'Audacity' to convert mp3's to .wav. Its very easy to use, and a simple google search should bring it up for you!

I can select .mp3s as text notifications (or reminders, etc.) just by dumping them in \Windows. No need to convert.

The alerts for text messages must be in *.wav format

Edit: Besides, long ringtone for text alerts will become very annoying when you have an ongoing convo because they play all the way through, you cant stop them.

Very true. With audacity, you can clip them. So choose a nice part of the song, preferably 5 seconds long.

What works for me...

I download clips from www.myxer.com. When they are downloaded, I then install them straight to my storage card (no folder,etc)... uncopyrighted and in mp3, .wav; any various format.

From the storage card, my Sounds & Notifications menu automatically recogizes everything on my storage card. No hacks or reg edits. If I set a mp3 song for a text alert it will play the entire song when I recieve a text message unless I cancel the song or pre-clipped to 30 secs.

Myxer has many clipped tones & songs for mobile devices that are ready for instant download and even straight to your phone. You may have to initialize a setting on your phone to get your storage card recognized. Otherwise you may have to drop them into the \windows dir but like I said... they are automatically found on my storage card.

Is there any way to have different txt msg notification alert for different contacts?! Like we do with the ringtones, so I will be able to know who is txting me without looking to the phone?!!!!!! I'm just curious!
