What GPS do you use???
I see all the time people asking how to get GPS on there phone but never see people ask what one do you use for your 6800.
I went looking and wow:scratch: Just so many and they go from $80-$250 If you wanted one for you car well then I would know:mrgreen: So please share what one you use for your pocket PC |
The only GPS device I have is a Holux GPSlim240 bluetooth usb device. It's about the size of a pack of gum, very simple, and works with my computer, 6700, and 6800.

I also have a Holux but mine is a Holux GPSlim 236 and a QSTARZ BT-Q816 both were both from www.buygpsnow.com, and they both work about the same but the QSTARZ BT-Q816 takes a lot longer the acquire a signal at cold start. I would recommend a Holux unit, and www.buygpsnow.com seems to have the best price and I have had no problems with them. I also use TomTom6 and its ok but doesn't have enough POIs for me so I use Googlemaps and Livesearch
Here is the link for discount codes for buygpsnow AXgps for 10% off gps hardware AX10 for 10% off software AX5 for 5% off gps bundles And you dont have to be a Aximsite member |
If you don't already have a GPS bluetooth receiver, I'd seriously look at the Garmin Mobile 10 package available at buygpsnow for $119.95. It includes the Garmin software and SiRFstarIII receiver. I have the TomTom and a Holux236 for my 6800 and a Garmin 2820, but still think I'll get this to play with.

i use globalsat 359 .. turns off by itself if not connected to save power.

thanks for the feedback everyone, that's kinda what i recall seeing people post in other past threads. personally i'm waiting to see how happy i am with our supposed "gps" update before spending any more...
|
The Garmin 2820 has bluetooth, but only for handling calls to/from the phone through the GPS unit. I'm not aware of a stand-alone GPS unit that will send location data to another device.

I got a Nokia LD-1W from Fry's for around $30 on clearance it works fantastic. My friend has a holux he spent almost $100 and it may start up a few seconds quicker but certainly not worth the extra cash. Since it uses a standard nokia tip i didnt even have to buy a new iTip for it since I already had one. If you can find one of these on the cheap i would grab it in a heartbeat.

i've been using the freedom mini keychain gps ($90 w/shipping) off of ebay, and its been working great with google maps & windows live. Also works well with Nav4all, free gps software with spoken turn by turn directions, and lots of other extras.

Holux GPSlim 236 here as well. I absolutely love it.

I, too, am using the Freedom mini keychain GPS, which was $90 shipped directly from the company in the UK. It's super small, only slightly bigger than a standard car remote door unlocking fob and connects via Bluetooth. It works fantastic and runs off a Lithium Polymer rechargable (via mini-USB) battery.

I'm currently using an I-Blue 737 BT GPS receiver (MTK low energy chipset) with my Mogul @ Mexico City and works great! It uses standard Nokia batteries so if the batt dies I can buy a Nokia one to replace it. (GPS $90)
|
I use a IOGear BT Receiver that also has a MTK chipset. I have iGo 2006 plus for navigation and have no complaints. It also works with Google Maps for mobile and other mapping software on my mogul.
If you are using it in the car, any receiver will work, but I recommend one with SiRF Star III chipset. |
I received a G.sat receiver for Christmas and purchased the Garmin Mobile XTT from Amazon and am very pleased. I presently own a Zumo, a 330, 3 i5's (given to my kids) and many other garmins in the past including streetpilots, ques, etc.
This combination is as good as the Zumo, but also provides traffic info. You can't go wrong with a $75 software package, even if it continues to require the receiver after the next promised release. Believe it or not, I actually can track satellites indoors, which I can't do with any of the stand-alone GPS units. Once again, Garmin comes through. No affilication other than a couple of thousand dollars worth of purchases! motrid |
i use a houlx m-1200 and tomtom software.
