I am about to cry.
I tried to sync my backups from my phone to outlook and since the profile on outlook was fresh it deleted them. What the f*** happened. My moguls is about to make a trip out of the 10th story of a building in NYC and I don't care if it hits a car on 7th avenue in midtown traffic. What the f*** did I do wrong? I created a blank profile on outlook to save the contacts too and next thing I know my phone is dead.

can u go back to your out look contacts and look into the deleted file... or "trash" it should be there
|
Ok.
First, here is a tissue. There is no crying on PPCGeeks... Second, is the Outlook you have installed from the CD that cam with your device? Are you using Oulook Express or other? Third, what do you mean by your outlook was fresh? Fourth, were you trying to sync only your contacts? Outlook can only sync your contacts, tasks, calendar, etc. Programs, apps, etc must be saved to your PC elsewhere. Fifth, when you established your PC to PPC connection, does your settings reflect to make changes on your device if different from your PC? Meaning that if it is or not on your PC, it will make your PPC identical to your PC? I have mine set to make the changes on my PC and not my PPC. |

I want to make it so that my changes on the PPC make changes on the PC. I think the PC changed the PPC and since it was a blank outlook profile with not contacts that is what happened. How do I make changes in active sync to do so?
I am also using Oulook 2007 Edit: Here is a write up cause I don't wany anyone to go through the hell I have had. This will work for an initial setup. When it asks you to sync uncheck all the options such as contacts/calendar/email/etc... and then click OK. It should bring you to the sync window. The go to tools->options. You will get a window that has an icon and Windows PC at the top of a tree listing as follows: http://www.anthonyw.net/images/ppc1.GIF Right click on the Window PC and then click settings, you will get a window like: http://www.anthonyw.net/images/ppc2.GIF When you look at the drop down for "If there is a conflict:" change it to "Replace Item on Desktop" and you should be set. Select the items you want to sync and there you go. IMO Activesync is a steaming pile of elephant dung and I am researching other ways to backup my contacts list as we speak. Mileage will vary with this method and I am not responsible if something goes wrong... |
Depending on what you are using (exchange or simply POP3), it maybe possible to recover all of your info.
If using pop3 or similar, go to these folders to find a PST file (which is what outlook uses to cache or store all a accounts information, email, contacts, calendars, etc) in the path i will provide below, replace username with the account you are using on your PC: if you are using xp: c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.pst If you are using Vista: c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\outlook\ outlook.pst If using exchange, then it will be a .OST file, but you can still use it to recover data. Hope that helps. |
This is just straight up bullshit. So now that I have restored the contacts I wanted to unclick contacts on the settings and it says it wants to delete all my contacts on the phone. So I cancel. Is there no way of disabling this I don't want to click OK. Also if I delete the device when I re establish a new connection fucking ActiveSync deletes my address book. Is there a way to backup outlook files without using this piece of shit software?

I hate Activesync. I've been robbed of my contacts, doubled my contacts, and even combined mine and my girlfriend's contacts all on my phone- but never backed up like expected.
all because activesync is a POS. pocket PIM FTW- it's FREE and easy! |
Do you have a link to said software and is it free?
|
|
is it possible to have it save contacts to desktop like in active sync but in vista with the mobile device center...its totally different then the aboved steps...
|
Outlook is a most suckalishious monstrosity. after years of living contact hell (totally unrelated contacts being combined, mysteriously missing, doubled or trippled), on multiple pc's, i finally quit using outlook for syncing contacts. I now use a PIM Backup program (free). I alo heard great things about Plaxo.com. After several years of using their service, i purchased the pro account whiicb allows u to sync contacts over the air. It also syncs with your other email accounts, as you choose and set them up using a very simple interface.
it is such a painless process now to update, maintain and restore contacts with these two very dendable options. |
The Op Is A Potty Mouth!
|
and by the way, he should be angry at him/her self, not his phone, because his Outlook was set to update the connected device from the pc. A simple step or two and he could have had the device update the desktop.
DOHHHHHH |
I just use Outlook... but once and a while I will export my contact list just to have a backup. I know there are 1,000 different programs for backing up, etc but I'd rather just do it the "manual" way...
"device update the desktop"... yup.. made sure mine was setup like that before I connected the Activesync Beast.... |

Yes, activesync sucks. I noticed it will delete contacts if you don't do things in the right order (and this order is certaintly not defined in the instructions!) what a horribly designed sync software. deleting, rather then copying when a new connection is made is somthing sync software should NEVER do (and, with careful programming, this is possible!) active sync = garbage did I mention activesync is also slow as shit and annoying as hell? /rant |
so is it possible to sync to desktop and save on desktop in vista like it is in xp? why did they have to totally rework active sync into wmdc and lose functionality
