Are there really no way to truly close apps with the "OK" button?
I've searched and can't find a direct answer. I realize that there are countless apps that ensure application are really closed when you hit the x button. I also realize that many software programs allow you to make sure the OK button closes apps - but WM6 doesn't let you map the OK button.
Is there any software or settings that will let you truly close by hitting the OK button? |
I don't know about the ok button but there is a program called HTC X button task manager I recommend. you can close with the X and manage task from the home screen.

quickmenu is way better and it uses very little memory. I highly recommend it.

Dinar Sale Anyone?

I just bought HandySwitcher, which does exactly what you want. DinarSoft is an EXCELLENT company and their products are great! http://www.dinarsoft.com/ I do not work for them... I just like their products. =D> No offense to anyone, but I've read HTC Close 2.0 has a nasty little close all bug and I paid for HandySwitcher because it's nicer on the eyes and more functional. (IMHO) ;) |

look for smartkeys
small footprint and allows holding down the soft right key to close programs instead of having to hit the x button (which requires a stylus for some people with fat fingers). Doing it this way also retains use of OK hard buttom when you just want to minimize and not close it out. and its free |
I can't belive that no one has mentioned AE Button Plus.
This utility extends functionality of hardware keys on Windows Mobile devices. It allows you to: * intercept almost any standard button: application buttons, WM5 SoftKeys, Volume slider, Action and even Red/Green phone buttons * distinguish up to 4 different keypress events on each button grabbed (single, double, triple and "long" keypresses). * remap each of the keypress events to "virtual" application button or assign them directly to one of the wide set of built-in actions. |
For what it's worth, I am going to try all the suggests (well, the free ones anyway) and report back as I think this is a big issue. It really bugs me that I can't re-assign the OK button like I could on the 6700.
I tried wtask and am impressed with the software, but couldn't find a setting to allow pressing the OK button to close the application. When I try it, it merely minimizes it. I still plan to try Magic Button, Quick Menu, and Smartkeys. I'm not sure I'll try the HTC task manager as I've heard too many bad things. |
AE Button Plus is free, sort of.
What is the difference between trial and registered version? Two things only: 1. Splash screen appears during device starting up. 2. "Action list" is blocked in trial mode And it does allow mapping of the OK key to close apps. |
Yeah AE Button plus is by far the best ive uses
Assigns single, double, triple and long presses No more tapping tiny icons for me Thanks Darkness |
On my 6800 there is an app called Running Programs that came with the phone. I hooked it up to the today screen and when I finish running apps
I just go back to the today screen like you normally do and push the icon and it shows whats still running and it cuts it all off. And its FREE and it works every time, even on Active Sync. |

for one, Hbutton can take control of the hardbuttons and allow actions depending on time..... i have my message button set so if i hold it down it'll do three quick vibrates, one vibrate = wtask launcher, two vibrates = flashlight, three vibrates = quit current program AE does a great job at mapping none hardkeys, but i dont think it functions better than Hbutton on actural hard buttons |
Sounds interesting, is it able to map the Start Menu/OK keys? Downloading it now, maybe ill try running both programs (have each app. run ½ the buttons)
Been playing with it for abot an hour. I think that i'll use it to map buttons 1 & 2 and have AEButton Plus do the rest. I like the fact that it show you the name of the app before openining it. |
Magic Button doesn't close apps using the OK button - only pressing the screen.
Smartskey is really nice and does the job but it bugs me the the right softkey closes the application instead of letting you us the OK button. Quick Menu works great! It has a pretty small footprint and also gives you a lot of ability to customize. I really like how it can put the battery life and RAM amount left in the top right hand corner on the Today Screen (where the "X" to close programs would usually go). Having said that, I don't think the extra features are worth keeping it around if AEButton plus lets me use the OK button and has a small footprint. Nice to hear Hbutton works. It didn't work with the WM6 kitchen for the 6700. |

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I had a question for Darkness or someone that might know the answer?
Is there a program that I can use to change the function of the external keys for say, backlight only off? right now I use software that I manual turn the backlight off while Im streaming music so that it keeps playing, would love to have the option to hit like the power button once, and it just turns the back light off, and or hold it down to put phone in suspend mode. Not sure if I explained that good, hope you get what Im looking for. Thanks! |

Nice setup, esp when you have lots of streams or if you want to go PMP with your unit. |
Hey MBartels... not sure if you found your answer and not sure if this is what you meant, but using Handy Switcher (I am also a fan of this software) you can use the OK button on the side of the mogul and it will close any open apps. I also map the "show menu" feature to a hardware button and I use it to show all open apps and can use my right directional button to close it as well. Hope this help in some way.

I have to say that I am loving AEBplus. Once I realized I didn't have to pay for it I gave it a shot. So far I've only mapped the OK button but that's really what I wanted. I now have 1 press closes, two presses minimizes (goes to today screen) and three presses opens my Ilauncher task manager. This is great! AEBplus also has a lot of options for buttons I would have never thought of. For example, I think I'll map the wireless manager button for 1 press copy, two presses paste, three presses wireless manager How cool is that? As much as I liked Quick Menu, I've now uninstalled it as AEBplus lets me map the OK button and I don't need the extra featurs Quick Menu offers as ILauncher has them. I'm still going to try Hbutton and Handy switcher. |
