Universal Infrared Remote Control Software

Has anyone had any luck finding Universal Remote control software that works on the mogul? I tried Novii as I have used them in the past and liked their software but it wont work on the mogul. VITO remote didnt work either. Anyways a universal remote is one of my favorite apps for my ppc's so if anyone knows of one pass it on.

Thanks

I believe that I have read that no remote software works with the Mogul as of yet sadly.

painkillaz 12-08-2007 06:06 AM

yea im looking for that as well

Holo20 12-08-2007 07:09 AM

Just out of noob-ish curiosity, what does the software do?

neilson 12-08-2007 10:06 AM

When can we expect software to come out that's compatible with the Mogul's IR port? It's been almost 6 months since the Mogul came out.

yehoshua 12-08-2007 10:52 AM

Holo20 the software would be a universal remote control for any vcr's, dvd players, stereos, basically anything that can be controled through infrared. Sever good apps of this sort already exist but none of them work on the mogul (or any wm6 devices)

I haven't tried any remote control software with the Mogul yet, but I did notice that the IR port is on the bottom of the phone. Has anyone tried turning the phone around?

Josedogg54 12-10-2007 10:29 PM

I have already tried Vito Remote, Doesn't work I e-mailed the company and one of there software writers is trying to work out the kinks. This was almost 5 months ago and I'm still waiting for an e-mail with the beta version attached. As soon as I get the program I'll let everyone know how good it works. Also the problem the 6800 was having was the program wasn't recognizing the phones processor.

ianargent 12-10-2007 11:16 PM

Is the IR port even Consumer IR (The 6600 wasn't I know that). If it's not, a remote IR program is a little less than useful.

Matt 12-11-2007 02:15 AM

I doubt the IR port on the phone is powerful enough to do much damage as a remote.

BetaMan 12-11-2007 03:34 AM

Novii Remote DID work on the xv6700. It was powerful enough but the IR had a narrow spectrum, meaning you had to aim just right to hit the IR port on the TV/VCR/DVD/etc...

Actually, that implies the 6700 IR port was not very powerful - it was not powerful enough to have the receiver pick up the remote from the reflections off the walls and what-not; it had to see the source. Every true remote I've ever used works just fine off-bore because of that - the remote is powerful enough that the reflections off, say, the opposite wall can be read by the receiver.

Obviously, this won't work on some wall colors and materials.

Also, back in the day, it used to be that you could run an IR transfer across at least 6 feet of open space in a well-lit room; nowadays the devices have to be next to one another, almost touching.

Man it would be so cool if there was an ap like this working for the mogul. At work there are several tvs with no remote (hidden) and would be awesome if I could just whip out my phone and change the channels that way.

qwho 12-11-2007 01:17 PM

My ipaq had nevo on it. It was so awesome... I used to mess with every TV I saw out in public. Maybe we can rip that out of the ipaq and see if it will work with the titan hardware? The link to some screenshots.

http://www.mynevo.com/html.php?page_id=5

Only problem is they don't offer a download, and it is embedded in my ipaq's rom.

akastixx 12-11-2007 01:43 PM

I tried TV Remote Controller on the 6800 and it didn't work. The program opened, but when you press any button, it exits. This program would be great since you can make your own themes making the upside-down aspect less of an issue.

Oh well. That's what I keep my g1000 around for - dedicated remote control / party camera.
After people leave, I just pop out the SD card and put it in my digital picture frame. Good times.

veblen64 12-11-2007 01:46 PM

I tried a few different TV remote programs on my 6600 a couple of years ago. They "worked" but were virtually useless because of the weak IR signal. You had to be just about close enough to the TV that you could change the channel/volume manually.

akastixx 12-11-2007 01:57 PM

seriously guys. while it is nice to have such a convergent device, if you really want to have a cool universal remote, just go on ebay and get any older pocket pc 2002/2003 pda. $30 and a little hunting for remote profiles or remote software that lets you use your own buttons will blow any harmony or similar $70+ universal remote out of the water, and since you are not using it for much else, and it can be docked to an regular outlet instead of your pc when you are not updating it, you will almost never have to worry about the battery.

gxnext 12-11-2007 02:00 PM

it seems apperent to me they design the IR on these phones weak on purposes. I mean typical use for IR on a phone would be to send a file, not changing a channel... so you don't want the signal beaming all over the place like a typical remote does... that's just not secure...

Anyway that said I had navii on my ppc-6700 and it worked well. its worth having a universal remote on ur phone even with its weak IR signal... well maybe not worth it if your paying for it. I was usually able to use it from a confortable distance.... but in no way am I suggesting it should replace a real remote... just fun and convient to have.

yehoshua 12-30-2007 10:38 AM

Any one heard anything new? I would really like to get something working on my phone :)

It's like nobody's been able to figure it out, or nobody's been willing to try.

the IR port on the mogul is almost definitely of no use as a "universal remote control": its just not powerful enough. its been stated several times. you would have to be inches from the receiver in order for it to 'see' you.

Not always true.
I had an HP jornada 548 and it didn't have CIR. I tried several URC software apps out on it, and although most of them were worthless more than 6 feet from the device, one app worked from 25 feet away.

This was thru regular irda. I don't know how it worked, but it did.

Here is a post about your question over at XDA. Didn't read up, but you can.

I concur, the range of the titan as a remote control would be pretty much useless. If there happens to be a flourescent light in the room, forget about it.

have you actually installed this and operated nevo on a titan??

i have a titan and an Hp IPaq rx-3715 with nevo built in. the 3715 and 1 other ipaq iare the only 2 devices that come built in with nevo and can not be purchaced as a 3rdparty app that i am aware of as per my extensive research when moving to my first WM-based PHONE several years ago. i keep my 3715 now for nothing other than the nevo fuction because i am too cheap to buy an actual nevo remote.

------------
i have my titan and rx-3715 sitting right next to eachother and i have installed this nevoremote cab file you posted. it installed with no issues and appears to operate properly as well. however...
1.the builtin codes will not work
2. it will not learn new codes via IR learn fuction ("express learning" or add/edit key)
3. even when successfully patching my own custum and default devices from mt rx-3715 and the home control comes up with my old devices that worked on my ipaq today... not one single button operates and infrared device.

everything apears to be in order and it seems like it should work simply and easily. how ever with auto acept all beams on and off no matter what i try i can not get 1 single IR button to work on my titan with any app including this nevo cab you have.

i have a custom rom from buildOS installed on my titan.
*******i have an rx4715 rom upgrade for anyone who thinks they can extract nevo from it. works just like a stock rom update you'd download from sprint (run exe etc...)

if you have any info and or need info/files from my 3715 i am willing to help

Re: Universal Infrared Remote Control Software

That cab appeared on XDA a few days ago. The poster claimed to have it working on a Titan, but neither myself nor anyone else was able to get it to work. Looks like a universal IR remote on the Titan is still a no-go.

Man, where were you two years ago? :)

I've actually still got my Titan lying around somewhere, so I would definitely be interested. Would still be useful as a universal remote, even if I don't use it as my phone.

Re: Universal Infrared Remote Control Software

Seriously guys, does it effing matter that I won't work from more than six inches away? Can you think of any possible reason that it would be useful regardless? I know one. I left the remote to my cable box at my friends house. I don't have if I have to attach 20 feet of cable to make the box right next to my hand, i'd at least like to be able to power it on... :P
