Smartphone or PocketPC?

Ok, so the Titan section on this board is in the PocketPC forum, but I was just wondering is the 6800 a Smartphone, or is it a PocketPc? I have seen it called both, and being a total noob to these devices (my local telco will start selling the 6800 any day now, in time for Christmas, they told me) I don't know for sure.

What generally tends to make a device a Smartphone, as opposed to a PocketPC?

I became confused when I went here to look at the Slingbox software, and didn't know which to choose.

Mogul is PocketPC. Smartphones = no touch screen, and an example of that would be Motorola Q.

You are from Alaska?.. cool. :)

Great, thanks for the clarification. I just bought a Q for someone here in the company, and had to get it set up to talk to our Exchange server. It was the first time I had even played around with Windows Mobile 6. I don't care for the Q as a device at all.

I am in Alaska, in Fairbanks. You're right, it is very... cool... right now. :)

Actually the Mogul is not a Pocket PC. Microsoft scrapped the terminology Pocket PC over a year ago. Even though the Mogul has Pocket PC printed on the device it is wrong.

Do a google search and you'll find out why they stopped calling them Pocket PC's.

A mogul is supposed to be called a "Windows Mobile" device now, And as for smartphones, No idea what their next name will be, (nor care... Touchscreens = FTW)

As far as Windows Mobile 6 is concerned, any phone that has a touchscreen will run on Windows Mobile 6 "Professional" edition

Any phone without a touchscreen...Motorola Q....
will run Windows Mobile 6 "Standard" edition

In the past the terms "Smartphone" and "Pocket PC" were used to differentiate between the two, but too often people(including phone companies) interchanged the terms and this caused confusion.

The important thing to remember if you are getting a Mogul, or any other phone running Windows Mobile 6 that has a touchscreen, would be to check before installing any software to make sure that you have the version that will run on "Windows Mobile 6 Professional" that way you'll know that if the software has functions that utilize the touchscreen, you'll have the right one.
