Email Sync from Gmail?

I just did a hard reset on my phone, but the email is managed differently then before.

Before the reset, my phone would check my inbox for any new emails. It would only download only out of my inbox. It would really Sync to my inbox on Gmail. If I downloaded my emails to my computer and they were showing on my phone, my next send and receive on my phone would delete the msgs on my phone.

Now after the hard reset, it downloads everything and keeps it on my phone even after the messages download out of the inbox to my computer?

Any way to get it back to the way it was? Is there another program to use besides the one on the phone to manage emails?

Thanks!

were you using pop3 or imap?

it sounds to me like "get settings from the internet" for gmail has been updated from pop to imap, and this is probably what the guy used.

happy days, i no longer have to type it in manually

You can get the settings for windows mobile POP3 if you wish to have it the old way.. but this is supposed to be an upgrade.

With a POP3 email account, emails are treated as files, either copying, moving or deleting, and downloading them will remove them from access. (Although gmail specifically breaks that rule by archiving them instead.) BUT, with an IMAP email account, all programs accessing your account will share the same online database, a mirror copy that replicates all actions.

If you downloaded 50 brand new unread messages to your phone, then suddenly demolished it. Those 50 unread messages will remain on the server waiting for you to access it from any other device you setup.

But with POP access you can only download them once, and not to any other device.
