Memaid's reclaimram doesn't generate any screen notification so it's a little more convenient if you plan on attaching it to a hardware button.

than what do you suggest?

Oxois Close doesn't, in my experience, seem to actually close anything, but it does free up quite a bit of memory. Kind of odd.

Also, after installing it and my next soft reset, X-Button 2.0 stopped functioning at all. Wouldn't appear on the Today screen, and wouldn't close any applications. No amount of uninstalls and reinstalls and resets would fix it, either. Finally had to switch back to 1.5.

Depends on what you want. I use Oxios because its free and gets back the most RAM. If you need the extra tools and/or want to start the program from a button, Memaid. SKtools interface seemed much cruder than Memaids to me and they seemed comparable in performance. Most of all, since each program offer free trials, anyone interested should d/l and make their own choice.

I use WkTask (http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html) to close programs and free up the RAM that they use. But, I think this is not exactly the focus of this thread? Even after "closing" all visible programs I can free-up 10-15 MB of RAM. It would be nice to get it back to 20+ MB free without a reset. The creator of WkTask is regularly working to improve his product. He needs help translating his instructions into English.

not sure if it's the same program as one mentioned earlier in this thread, but I use "hibernate" in quickmenu and it is always able to reclaim some RAM for me

The latest SKTools rocks! Free RAM gains me back more than the old version!
