Titan & Google Android... Possible? Beneficial? Illusion?

Hey all,

Hopefully this hasn't already been discussed and I get blasted for being a lazy sloth (which I am accused of everyday) :)

Anyhow, I was reading that the google android project has managed to be able to work with the qualcomm processor in the 6800.

My question is this: Is it even possible to have the android on the mogul instead of sprint roms? If it is possible would it be beneficial to even have?

I am known to have illusions of grandeur. Hopefully this isn't one of them thinking that the google android will solve all of the 6800 problems and also have flawless BT.

Sprint is suppose to be one of the companies involved in the Android project, so it could be possible. However, Android wont be released in any devices until the end of 2008 and with Sprint's track record, I doubt they will give anytype of possible upgrade to Android. Hell they wouldnt even give the 2 month old Moto Q's an update to WM6.

I would say the only you will see Android is on a new HTC device around the end of 08'.

Considering the open-source nature of Android, I suspect one of many things Google will allow is for you to adapt it to your device of choice. With phones like the OpenMoko and others designed with this in mind, I bet Google's more than willing to let you do with their OS as you please as far as devices is concerned. And since HTC is one of the main hardware companies supporting it, odds are it'll be easier.

yep, i bet it will be possible, in theory. but a lone hacker will have to do it.
there's no way sprint would do it.
what do they gain?
the risk of having phones break on flash, or what if people don't like it.
they'll lose their contacts, etc..
sprint isn't going to want to help transfer them.
there's no reason for sprint to risk it.
they'll likely just release android on a new HTC phone as mentioned above.
I personally will do whatever it takes to get one.
i vowed i wouldn't get the iphone and their closed ideas, so this is my bet on the future.
remember, everything google does turns to gold :)

I've played with the OS some in their emulator, and it seems nice, but dumbed down compared to Windows Mobile. The interface is very tight though, and the video of the interface seemed promising (notifications with their text show up in the top bar where signal/battery/whatever, such as new text messages). If this came to the Mogul, I'd definitely give it a shot. Just hoping for a more customizable home screen.

It is really funny and sad at the same time to see Microsoft losing its grip by its own poor business decisions. Microsoft has the "lets handcuff the consumer" strategy, thinking they will totally control and dictate everything the consumer does with their product. No customizing, modifying, choice. People don't like to be controlled and pay a fortune at the same time.

Google instead lets the consumer dictate and control themselves, individually, and not pay a dime for almost all services. That method attracts more people to their company/products/search and in turn makes billions in advertising by the amount of people who use their products. Funny thing is that their products far exceed Microsoft's in many different areas.

I give it less than 10 years until a Google PC Operating System is on more PC's than a Microsoft Operating System is.

Ok, sorry for my rant on Google/Microsoft consumer economics and trade practices. Just thinking about the Android got me started.

I don't think there's a phone made that can be customized more than a WM phone. 99 times out of 100, if phone features are locked, it's the carrier that locks them so it can charge to unlock them again.

Per the question above....look at the number of people who think that piece of crap AOL IM client is "good" solely because it's free. Or how many people put up with that bloated mundu and palringo because they're free. I have NO DOUBT tons of people will put up with ads to not have to pay $60 a month. Fortunately, they'll be the crew that doesn't know the difference between "free" and "worthless", spend hundreds for a phone and then whine about having to pay $20 for software for that phone. Good riddance.

I think people have a misconception about Android. I just listened to an interview with Androids creator. Android will not have ads popping up at you...Well besides the ones that are already on about every website you visit. He stated quite clearly that there would be no pop up google ads. I think this os would be awesome for the mogul if it is done properly. If someone is will to take on the task I would help with some donations to get Andriod running on the Mogul.
