Current best option until 2008 ROM?

Well, I currently have the 2.09 installed. Receivers report poor call quality when I am using my BT headset (Moto HS850). I use BT quite often. The alarm bug is pretty lame also. This is something I used often on my previous phone. Otherwise, I don't have many issues.

I got scared away from trying 2.16 because of all the reports so I decided to wait it out. However, I dont know if I can wait until Jan-Feb of 2008. I see that some people have no issues at all with 2.16. Does the lock up on roam switching and BT drop not occur for some people? I dont know who to believe. I guess I should just try it and see.

What is the CURRENT BEST OPTION?

1. stick with 2.09

2. 2.16 (if it works ok for you)

3. 2.16 + older radio 1.40

4. Most stable, least buggy Custom ROM thats out (which is?)

If 2.16 is working perfectly for you and you have tested the steps to reproduce the bugs with no ill effects please share your configuration.

- Did you let the custom Sprint stuff install?
- Is it a default stock reinstall?
- Did you restore (possibly introducing conflicting registry tweaks) or is it clean?

I suspect some ppl restored bringing reg. hacks which them with can cause issues. I plan to try a 2.16 clean install (with sprint extras) this weekend or soon after. No restore with reg hacks or anything like that. Just my Contacts. I will report back to this thread. It would be nice to have one thread relating specifically to known configurations that people are reporting good results from and any observations or tips from people who seem to have the 2.16 rom running well.

I had 2.16 installed, installed the 2.14 (alltel) OS only (no extrom) and the 1.40 radio and soft reset before the sprint customizations went into effect. Now I have the new startup screen and perfectly working BT audio, although in the 3-4 days I've had it installed BT has shut itself off twice - weird I know - way less than before and I have not had any problems with it locking up or anything.... Seems to be the best of everything...

I'm using 2.16 (option 2). It is a stock install, working fine for me right now, but I don't use a BT headset. I have had it lock up a couple times and had to reset, but I guess I'll live with that. 2.16 is running a lot snappier for me and I'm not getting a memory leak with it (I start at 23 and after 2 days I was at 18 instead of 2...)

I'm on option 3 with plenty of hacks and 3rd party software loaded... -- just flashed the 1.40 radio yesterday -- too early to know for sure, but so far so good...

I am using 2.16 and no problems at all.

I softreset it however before the Sprint software was installed.
No freeze up caused by the ROM [RAM hogging programs, but took care of that] so far, and everything is working smooth and fast as it should.

Option #3 is working good so far

I was doing #1.

Tried #2, really bad lockups required removing battery to boot. BT shutdowns and DPAD lockup.

Went back to #1

And now it's not as stable as it was.

I think some radio configuation areas of ROM got updated by 2.16 that 2.09 did not restore.

Sometimes the speaker just goes mute. Totally dead until I reboot.

Sometimes calls coming in show absolutely no attempt at waking the phone or leaving a missed call notify. It's like the phone didn't exist. With solid signal.

Not sure where to turn.

I don't even care anymore I'm dumping it for a Sprint Touch.

But I would like to get the thing halfway stable so I can sell it without getting complaints. Right now the phone is worthless.

I've noticed the same thing! I installed 2.16 and experienced ALL of the problems that have been reported. I then went back to 2.09 and 1.40 radio. I still experience some flaky problems with the phone and BT. I believe something that was changed by 1.47 is not getting overwritten when reflashing with the old ROM.

I have since tried three different custom ROMs and they all have occasional problems with my BT shutting off.

I'm running Colonels latest custom ROM right now. I don't use everything that he has installed, but it seems to give me the fewest problems.

I was thinking of trying 2.16 again with the 1.40 radio, but if the BT keeps shutting off because of the ROM then I'm not going to be a happy camper.

4. Learn ARM assembler. Hack the hell out of all the oem drivers until everything works.
