I have the same issue. I just figured it was for locating so you can find nearby businesses and not actually tracking. Really no sense to track because you dont get turn by turn voice directions like tomtom.

Same problem: Spectec 2-in-1 GPS and Treo 700wx, so it's not a Titan issue but rather Google Maps.
The only think I like about Gmaps is it's fast to load/get GPS info. Other than that, I don't care for it compared to Live Search which has full screen, direction arrow, etc. But it's slow to load/acquire GPS. |

I keep seeing people mentioning Windows Live as a mapping/GPS tool, but I have not been able to find a PPC application for this. How does one use Windows Live with a PPC/GPS?

They are talking about Windows Live Search. Its a PPC app.
Or Google Maps Both apps interact with Bluetooth GPS receiver to track location, get directions, find stuff etc. Both requires a active data connection

Cool, two different answers. I've already seen the Virtual Earth Mobile app, but I hadn't been able to find the Windows Live Search app. I'll download it and check it out. Thanks, that's exactly the pointer I needed.

Thx for the windows live info. I installed the app on my mogul and tried the autotrack, it worked!! did not drop the signal at all during my 40 mile trek and the arrow thing/turn by turn is great.
I agree Gmaps is faster and I like its simplicity over WLS but I like having GPS better. Thx again! |

I set up Windows Live today and tried it out on a trip this afternoon. It worked quite well. On the way home, though, I asked it for directlions. It was fine as long as I stayed on its route, but it wasn't very flexible if I strayed from it. It seems to have a strong preference for freeways - even when the freeway route was MUCH longer than the surface streeets, it still tried to put me back on the Freeway. So it should be good for city to city stuff, but maybe less so for crosstown navigation. |

Google Maps Tack location problems - try this
I've finally got my google maps track location working. Version 1.2.0.18 on WM5.0
Basically everything worked except when selecting Track Position the blue flashing dot and map just stayed where they were as I moved. If I toggled Track Position it would refresh the dot and map to the current position and just stay there again. A buddy at work who has also just got a new Titan found a work around somewhere else (not sure where - I didn't ask) Basically select Track Position and then via Menu->Options->Track Location Settings set the GPS port manualy and then toggle the Speed drop box between 0 and 38400 about 3 or 4 times, and then wait for a few seconds and the map will suddenly start panning with the blue flashing dot staying in the centre. Interestingly if you leave the speed set to 0 it still works. Last edited by paturoa; 11-01-2007 at 02:17 AM. |
