My mogul set up
A quick write-up of my set up. This setup works great for me and makes my mogul more responsive than it has ever been (and I've gone through 4).
What it has: o HTC (Titan) Mogul PPP-6800 (Pocket PC Branded) o Hard-SPL v1.20 (Thanks Olipro, best utility out of all of them!) + http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=1538775 o Radio v1.47 from 10/23 Sprint Rom + http://download.america.htc.com/RUU_...PL106_Ship.exe o ROM: dcd v1.1_r3 + ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks..../dcd1.1_r3.rar o MTTY + http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/mtty.exe o RUU Updater Utility (without ROM) ***ADDED*** + ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks.com/ruu.zip Extra Programs (Useful programs I found around the forums): o PHM Regedit + http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/ o HTC Home Touch Plugin + http://rapidshare.com/files/36863085...ome_Plugin.cab o Office 2007 mobile w/ One Note (new version) (UPDATED!) + ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks.com/jimm98y_office2007.CAB o Kaiser 10-button comm manager + ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Users/Colonel/Kaiser%20Comm%20Manager(10%20Buttons).CAB o Microsoft Live Search 2.5 w/ Voice Recognition (works great!) + http://mobile.search.live.com/client...LiveSearch.cab o TCPMP v.0.81 Unofficial Hybrid-> Also has files for streaming WMV/WM9 etc... + http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/htc...decs-here.html o Adobe Flash 7 PPC + http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...fp7_ppc_en.cab o Threaded SMS (more like Treo's SMS) + Link Removed by moderator ---------------- Ok, now that all that is out of the way, I am doing a quick write up on how I have my Titan set up. 1. Download all program you want from above. 2. Connect HTC Mogul to computer and allow ActiveSync to connect. 3. Install latest Sprint ROM (10/23) to install Radio v1.47. (This will uninstall Hard-SPL if its installed!!) 4. Continue through soft reboot after installed, don't worry about pre-installed Sprint software.) Allow activesync to connect again. 5. Run Hard-SPL installer. (Needed! Saves you from bricking phone!) 6. End up on boot loader (colorful boot screen). Don't worry your phone is NOT bricked, just needs a couple commands.) 7. Right click on ActiveSync, go to connection settings and un-tick 'Allow USB Connections'. (if mtty doesn't work double check this) 8. Open up MTTY. For port choose USB (at bottom of list). Choose OK. 9. You will get a blank screen. Hit 'Enter' and get CMD>. 10. Type 'set 16 0' and press enter. (without the 's) 11. Type 'task 8'. This reboots phone. 12. Your phone will reboot into new sprint rom. (if you want to keep this rom skip to step 18.) 13. Right click on ActiveSync again. Choose 'connection settings' and tick 'Allow USB Connections'. 14. Make sure activesync is connected (i have to undo and redo the usb cord. 15. Install dcd clean rom v1.1. (download RUU installer and place dcd1.1_r3.nbh in RUU directory then run ROMUpdateUtility.exe). NOTE: you will get a rom image corrupted error. This is normal and does not effect your ROM or your phone! 16. Repeat step 7 through 11 if you are stuck on the colorful bootloader screen. (The one that looks like its out of an old atari game). 17. Allow phone to reboot. 18. Install software you want. (Also for better look go to Start->Programs->Today and choose HTC_default for your theme. Its a dark gray/black theme.) Memory Info (with all the above mentioned installs after a fresh softboot): Program Total: 47.23MB In Use: 21.59 MB Free: 25.64 Storage Total: 156.95 In Use: 26.27 Free: 130.67 ***ADDED IMPORTANT INFORMATION*** To recover from a bad rom update or to be able to access your phone through MTTY. Hold the power button and camera button down and press the soft-reset button. This will boot you into the colorful atari bootloader screen (ie same location as step 6) so you can either update to a new rom (or the original sprint one if you dropped a load in your pants from thinking your phone was bricked) or to restart this procedure. I kept the DCD clean rom because it runs the best on my phone. DCD did an excellent job and I prefer his Alltel version of the rom over the 'new' sprint one. Not sure if Radio 1.47 does much difference, however sprint wouldn't have updated it if it didn't need it. My phone is VERY responsive now and runs great. If I didn't give anyone due credit for their cab files then I apologize. My intention was to make easily clickable links for a colaboration of software. I made none of this software, nor put any of it together. I take no credit for it and thank all the original developers and those who took the time to put it together. TCPMP 0.81+hybrid works great and MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE DLL'S FROM THE WEBSITE INTO THE Program Files\TCPMP directory! I have youtube through TCPMP and also can listen to all my streaming radio stations through TCPMP. FYI, If you want to use a Clear Channel Radio Station, you have to use Opera 8.65 as PIE has a problem connecting to it. For the HTC Touch Home Plugin to get a non-listed weather location. First select any weather city from the weather (looks like a sun) section of the plugin (if you don't do this the next part wont work) Then use PHM Regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Se ttings\. Change Location to your city (ie Corona, CA) and LocationCode to NAM|US|(state)|(city) (ie NAM|US|CA|CORONA). If your in another country you have to go to the AccuWeather website, choose your city there, and copy the comparable part of the link to LocationCode key. I think I got everything, but its 4am and i'm might have missed something as I've been up for two days dealing with the fires here in California. Hope any of this helps!!! ==seigex== ---I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR BRICKED PHONES. IF YOU DID THEN IT IS ON YOU. USE ALL OF THE ABOVE SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! HOWEVER IF YOU INSTALL Hard-SPL YOU WON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM!!!--- |
I had to remove the link to the Palm Thread SMS app. Palm has contacted the site's admin in the past asking us no to distribute it in any way (ie. posting links) due to it being their intellectual property.
Thanks for understanding. |
no prob.. thanks!
|
The office link w/ one note doesn't work. Can you update.
Thanks, Phil |
updated and working.

WOW! Thanks seigex, this looks awesome! I'm doing it as I type this...
update: as it has been 4bout 5 hours or so since I flashed the ROM I had the phone just shut down on me unexpectedly. The screen was off and when I tried to turn it on it was unresponsive. No flashing green light either. Will monitor and continue to report on any developments! |
Thanks for the detailed write up. I am totally new to smart phones/PPCGeeks, just got my mogul yesterday and I keep getting ERROR [330] : ROM IMAGE ERROR when I try to install dcd clean rom v1.1 which I've read means the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. The method I am using to install dcd clean rom is I extracted the RUU installer of the lastest sprint ROM and placed the .nbd of dcd clean rom in the folder and running the ROMUpdateUtility.exe. I wasn't sure where I was suppose to get the RUU installer mentioned in step 15. I was able to get through steps 1-14 sans problems.
If anyone can help or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Also these boards have been very informative, so thank you everyone involved in this community. |
I will add the RUU updater to the FTP SITE and update the first post. It could be that the RUU updater that came with the new rom was checking for that rom size. Either way, try it with the one I add and let me know.
**** EDIT **** the RUU updater I use is in the first post. Try that one... hopefully this will work for you. |
The link you posted for the RUU actually downloads dcd clean rom .nbh (when clicked) though if you copy and paste it you get the RUU.zip. I have run it twice now and I am getting "ERROR [270] : UPDATE ERROR The image file is corrupted. Please check your Update Utility." Any ideas?
|
Strangely enough it seems to have completely changed the ROM even with the error.

EDIT **** And I fixed the link. thanks for the heads up. |
thanks man. I just did all of that.
|
crap... now I can't soft reset and mtty is saying that it can't open the port.
|
Thanks
seigex,
thanks for the amazing write up. everything is working great and i can easily notice the better performance with this rom. |
I'm not too bright.
Thanks again for the write up. |
The regedit program will not install on my phone. At the end of the installation, the add/remove dialog comes up for activesync, and phm is not there. Any help?
|
For PHM regedit you need to get the ARM version and copy it to the Mogul. The msi installer doesn't work.
|
I agree with MannyPR, I also would always suggest using cabs if you can. I keep a directory on my 2GB SD card just for all the cabs i use, as I play around with ROMS all the time and that way I don't have to search and re-copy all my cabs back to my phone. You just navigate to the folder with File Explorer and run them one by one (clicking cancel when it asks you to soft reset your phone until you have them all installed just to save time.
I'll be adding the method to recover from a soft reset on the first post also.. another important piece of bit anyone using Hard-SPL and installing custom or modded ROMS should know. |

I use XP Professional, so I can't test out the Vista problem. You have to search the forums, unless someone else can chime in who uses vista, there is a file (i believe a DLL) that has to be added to system32 or something like that for mtty to work property with vista.
But don't worry, your phone is not broken. |
PIE Issues
I commend you DCD for a great ROM! I see a noticeable difference with just opening and closing the Mogul. I only have one question. Has anyone had any problems getting on the net? I seem to be able to send MMS's right (another handclap for you *clap*) but I cannot go on any sites from PIE. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance |

I haven't seen any problems with the internet on mine. Some people were having problems with radio 1.47 .. try downgrading the radio to 1.43 and see if that fixes your problem.

Vista Fix, Worked for me:

Here my newbie question of the day:
Will this, the sprint rom, work on an Alltel mogul? Alltel is my carrier. Sry if this is a stupid question i just dont want to brick my new 6800. |
Quote:
Good question.. Only one way to find out. As long as you can install Hard-SPL on your phone you won't brick it.. If it doesn't work then you can just reflash. I'm using Alltel on Sprint so i doubt you will have a problem. INSTALL HARD-SPL FIRST!!! I find Alltel has a better set up than sprint and works better, So if I were you I would keep your alltel rom. |
Thanks i was i guess wondering if the grass is greener on the other side plus i wanted some of the apps. I do love the alltel version its is solid as far as my 6800 goes. Thanks for the advice. I WILL FIND THE APPS AND STICK WITH ALLTEL....

Hi,
Thanks for the instructions -- worked great for me a few days ago. I just tried to go back and install the Kaiser Comm Manager and I'm getting "Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions." Any ideas? Thanks :) |
