Actually has anyone tried this on a mogul w/ stock SMS (i.e. no threader such as PocketCM or Palm) ?

Looks like it maps into SMS with TSIMMapiRule.dll

Yes- no go as well with stock SMS.

doesn't the md5 error have to do with the files themselves not adding up correctly? like standard md5? I think it's something like file integrity or a certain hash? I've only heard the term in passing...

MD5 is used with encryption. It's been a while but I think it creates a undecryptable hash from provided input. An example might be you specify a password which is run through MD5 encryption using a specific key and the "garbage" output is stored. Later, you enter a password somewhere and it's run through MD5 encryption using the same key and the output is compared to that which was stored earlier. If they are the same, the correct password was entered but you can't take the hash and decrypt the original password from it.

MD5 sums can also be used to verify file integrity. Not sure which Sprint is using outside of sniffing the TCP/IP session (if it will route over wifi) and checking what is being sent/received to shoot up the error.

Yeah, without some inside information, it could be anything. On the upside, if this is anything like the OZ IM app that came with the T-Mobile MDA, Sprint's doing us a favor by preventing it from running on the Mogul. It was unstable crap....actually worse than nothing.

The OZ Instant Messenger app uses SMS, not TCP/IP, doesn't it?

The T-Mobile version of OZ doesn't work on Sprint anyway, so it won't do you any good.

I just tried to sniff out the packets to find out it does not appear to be routing over wifi :(

Does anyone know what they Sprint is actually checking with the MD5 sum - binary integrity or an actual hash based on some device info?

leetsauce 11-10-2007 10:14 PM

Could it be that the app checks for certain security certificates installed?

anythingbutmine 11-12-2007 09:36 AM

I suppose that's possible, but that wouldn't make sense to give MD5 errors because of that.
