Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
Thanks for getting this added ive been quite active over at xda in your original thread.
Hopefully someone from here can shed some light on how to get this thing rooted. |
Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
I am more than willing to setup a workstation with remote access and with the merge attached via usb, in order to develop a root procedure. I have the android SDK installed and will be more than happy to work with the developer.
According to the Quadrant benchmark, the phone is fast. See attached picture. Serisouly though, if anyone is intrested in remoting into a pc with the merge attached, I'll set it up in a flash. http://i52.tinypic.com/dbqsfm.jpg |
Ill set it up later today and you can connect to my pc

Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
I think there may be a small misunderstanding here, but at least we are getting some attention/making some headway.
A dedicated sub-forum is a start. I am an absolute nOOb with android, but have quite a bit of experience with WinMo, for all the good that's doing me now. It did however teach me how to search. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) I am hesitant to try many of the methods I have found to achieve perm root as they are described for other devices. It seems that visionary for temp root and then another method (gFree, unrEVOked, or RageAgainstTheCage) for perm root may be viable options, as these methods have worked for other devices. I simply don't know enough about android to risk it. Hopefully we can get someone with experience rooting a new model to help us since it appears that most established rooting devs are on the big carriers. Maybe some folks from Verizon will get a Merge from somewhere. We CDMAers went through a long wait to get WinMo RhodiumW HSPL unlocked when it came out as well, and it was released on all the major carriers. Might be something to do with CDMA/GSM worldphone status as RhodiumW was also worldphone. Got my fingers crossed and thanks in advance to whoever figures it out. |
Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
Unfortunately those other methods won't work because they were developed for hboot 1.0 + and our phone has hboot .88
|
Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
ive been to irc.freenode.net #unrevoked and spoken with the developers over there and they said their app wont work with it because of the hboot version. what we need to do is find a phone that had a lower than 1.0 hboot and what methods were used to root.
really what we need is for alltell, uscellular, cellular south to release an updated rom for the phone then we will have a recovery file. since no known methods work so far. the goldcard method might work but no one is going to be brave enough to do it until we have a recovery to flash to. |
Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
Ive read that you can temproot with visionary+, but when i try it just sits on the please wait screen forever.

Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
temprooting with visionary+ is possible. If it gets stuck on that screen, just press back and try again. It always works on the 2nd try if it doesnt happen in the first.
We are making headway guys, thanks to all of you who have been contacting devs and getting information. We need to keep this rolling and we will get there. I have RUUs for the merge but these were from before its release and will most probably have beta software. But they would also have the recovery. I can upload somewhere if needed. |

Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
I would love to root my ADR6325, but have searched high and low for a solution with no luck. My carrier is Alltel and being a smaller regional provider I am doubtful I'll ever see a Gingerbread/Sense 3.0 update but I have my fingers crossed. Maybe by the time I feel totally left in the dust by other carriers updating their customers devices some really sharp dev will have figured out a way to get to the root of things on the Merge. It really is an awesome phone with lots of potential.

So I found a USCC RUU on shipped-roms.com along with a Verizon and Alltel. Now I believe I can jack up my phone, and recover it. I did notice the RUU version is 2.04.573.2 and mine is .3?
Screen shot attached. Is it possible to updgrade or downgrade to another version of HBoot? Is HBoot universal? What is included in the HBoot? I have seen other posts about it, but nothing that seems like a solid explanation. |

Re: HTC Merge Custom Recovery & Roms
Finally some progress on this! I knew someone out there would make it happen. Too bad I'm on usc and not up to speed on the lingo just yet, but now I have something to keep me busy. Big :thumbright: to all involved
