Turn Screen Off

Hello, everyone. I am sure you have all come across this problem, but i cannot seem to identify a clear solution to implement.

I would like to turn the screen off or put the phone to sleep without have to hold a button then click a screen button. has anytone come across an easy way to achieve this functionality?

Thanks in advance!

I am looking for the same. It would be great if we could implement the same one click screen off that the HD2 and Touch 2 has.

Try this: Hold down the RED Hangup/Power button. The phone doesn't actually turn off, just blanks screen. Gotta hold it like 5 secs.

What am I missing? When you press the red end call button for a few seconds, the selection screen shows up. Ignore it for 2 seconds and the phone goes to sleep. Seems pretty simple to me.

You don't have to press anything extra, but a 3 sec Hold on the end key and it will turn the screen off and lock it by itself.

Thanks for responding, everybody.

I am being lazy. I really don't want to have to hold a button and wait. I guess I will have to learn to deal with it. None of these devices are ever going to be perfect. at best they will be very kewl.

This forum has given me so much, so here's my chance to finally help someone else...
My solution is to use Changescreen app. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466858

Changescreen has an option that turns off the screen when the phone is held upside down. It also allows rotation (landscape) in every screen, but if you don't want that you can turn off the landscape function in the properties. When I want to turn off my screen I just put my phone in my pocket upside down! Check it out, it works great for me!

Thanks to Edison for the solution, and thanks to Tec for starting this thread! I was thinking the same thing - I didn't like the 2-step, 5 second process to turn the screen off before I put it in my pocket. Installed this app yesterday - works great. Love it - thanks!

OK, the idea is good and teh app kind of works. However, I noticed one thing while I had it in my back pocket. the phone turned on. It would seem it turns off after the first hit of a button, but on the second hit it turns on (although in a dimmed mode). I am sure this will still drain my battery.

HAs anyone else tried it?

Re: Turn Screen Off

Strange - I put it in my breast pocket of my shirt (upside down), and can reach in and push the buttons and/or the screen. It does come on (in locked mode) for a second, but instantly turns back off. Did you go into the settings and tell it to turn off when upside down? Is the phone upside down?

Re: Turn Screen Off

Yeah, I set that up. Still turns on if I click a button (by mistake). The first time it does shut off, but subsequently may or may not stay on.

I wonder if anyone has a hack that will allow us to set only 1 button or a combination of buttons to turn it on. There has to be something out there. Or, if any of your code geniuses are watching...PLEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSEEEE!

The absolute fastest way to lock the Imagio is to tap the bottom right soft key "lock" on the TouchFLO today/home screen. One momentary tap and you're done. On mine, because I like the My Info display to show when locked (to allow a kind person who may find my locked lost phone to return it to me) the "my info" screen stays lit for a few moments, but the keys and screen are disabled, so it's safe to drop into your pocket. The screen then blacks out in a few seconds, even in your pocket, usually when I'm halfway down the front stairs. :evil4:

I use xdaShutdown mapped to the media key. hit media key, hit sleep button, done.

How do you get your info to show on your lock screen?

Settings> All Settings> Personal> Owner Information> Fill out "Identification Screen" with your name, address & email> Options tab> check box "Identification information"
Your phone will then display your name and address when locked, so if someone finds it sitting in the Starbucks or taxicab you just accidentally left it at, you have some chance of an honest person being able to return it. You could also fill out the "notes" tab with something like "please return this phone if found--big reward if you do!" and check the "notes" box instead of the ID Info box on the Options tab.

For some reason this made my phone refuse to unlock. Had to do a hard reset. I'm no configuration wiz so I didn't have anything too fancy running, either.

I wish I had some more info about this issue but I recall reading a while back that there's a glitch with the personal info screen. Jeeez, where did I see that...and what exactly was the issue. New Year's Eve killed off too many brain cells methinks. :drunken:
