Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
I use googls maps' location feature to search what around me. I am from Ny metro area. this week i am travelling to cleveland Ohio and when I tried the google maps and try to locate me with the google maps it displayed a message stating "Your current location temporariliy available". Does anybody know what is the reason.
I didn't tried the gps to locate me. |
Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
Make sure your phone is set to location on. Go to Settings -- Personal -- Phone -- CDMA Services (tab) -- Location Setting and make sure that LOCATION ON is selected not 911 ONLY.

Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
Did you have 3G service in that area? If it's showing 1X you will likely have issues with the location functions.

Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
I didn't tried with GPS.
It used to work even without gps with less accuracy (Even inside buildings) using cell towers for location thing. Another problem I noticed that the location weather doesn't work either. I did called Verizon and asked me take the battery out for 15 seconds and after the phone startsup do a *228 then 1 (Activate phone thing). It didn't helped either. It was perfectly fine in the NY metro area and New jersery. |

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
If the program can't locate you using cell tower triangulation (not unusual), you'll get the error. In this case, and if you want more precision, click on Menu and select the Use GPS option.

Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
I can confirm that the Location based weather and Google Maps location does not work in the Cleveland area. Obviously with GPS enabled Google Maps works fine, but the weather still does not. I have a colleague that said his Imagio's location based weather works fine in the Akron area, but does not work when he is in Cleveland.
I was looking at FieldTrial and after opening Google Maps, location data does show up with GPS disabled. Do you suppose this a problem with Verizon in the Cleveland area, or is this a problem with Google not having the information needed about the cell-towers in the Cleveland area to triangulate the position? Edit: I was mistaken. It shows some info about the Space Vehicles (SV's) that it could see before I turned off GPS, but no Cell tower info. Can someone confirm that their Imagio shows Cell tower info in the GPS section of FieldTrial (pilot phase and pilot strength) |
Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
I am back in NY area. As soon as I landed my weather google maps are working fine.

Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
Hmm seems like some issue with certain towers not giving out the Location info or some such. Curious.

Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
mine works ok with / without gps enabled.
gps is alittle more accurate placing me tho. when i disable it & start the program it puts me in the neiboors front yard about 400yds away. as soon as i enable it and it finds the sats it gets within about 50 feet. |
Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)

Re: Location Feature not available (Google Maps)
Just want to though in my .02 cents on this issue. I just purchased a new verizon wireless imagio yesterday and fought with the GPS all last night and this morning, Until i remembered a fix i did on my wifes Ozone phone.
initially Google maps and bing maps could not lock onto any satellites at all. Actually Google maps would give me an error after it would run for a few minutes, saying " your GPS signal is really weak and needs to be serviced" ( or something to that effect. I doubled checked the "location setting' and made sure that GPS setting was on " allow windows to mange", also did numerous 'Quick GPS" updates. Then after remembering what i did on my wife's Ozone and for troubleshooting sakes i ran the Verizon Navigator application (which i must say is slow as all get out). I selected the "one day - one time free trial", and installed it ( i actually had to download it for the Imagio, the Ozone already had it installed). Once the application updated and configured itself, i went to the navigator's map function and wall-la it found me perfectly and actually flashed my street address, which i kind of thought was a little neat. Then i closed Navigator and launched Bing and Google maps. Wall-la again Google maps started locking in on 9-11 satellites and the lock in time was probably about 10 seconds, inside my house and on a rainy day. So I guess Verizon does have the GPS application open to other 3rd party applications but there is something that Navigator needs to do before they will work correctly. I hope this helps someone in the future. Go Buccaneers (tough year for the bucs though). |
