soft-reset key combination?
 

is there a key press combination to do a soft-reset without having to take the back cover off and press that button (if the front screen is locked up and you can't activate a soft-reset app)?

thanks! What is this CAB? If it's a software Soft Reset app, I've already got one. What I'm looking for is a button-press combo, for those (rare) times when the screen is frozen in some app and I can't get to run any other application. Or am I missing something?

You are correct. This is just an application. As far as I know there is no key combo to reset the phone. You are looking for an alt+F4 type of combination. I have not seen one.

hmmm. Weird; other HTC phone's I've had always had a key combo.

You're thinking of Hard Reset (Reset to factory settings) and Bootloader (Ready to flash mode) key combos. Soft reset (Restart device) has always been a reset button on HTC devices that I can remember.

Is turning it off via the power button (not standby) the equivalent of a soft reset?

A soft reset is nothing more than a simple reboot (power off, power on), right? So powering off via the End key or pulling the battery would accomplish the exact same thing.

Or am I missing something?

He's trying to find a simpler way to hardware restart (Soft Reset) without opening the battery door I think. Unfortunately the End key is usually non-responsive on a hard lockup of the device, but sometimes if it's just an app really hanging it up the Long End Key Press will give you the shut down prompt. There is no way to do this otherwise to my knowledge.
