Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
I had my previous phone (HTC Touch) set up to access three email accounts: my Exchange account and two separate Gmail accounts via IMAP. It all worked well and, when I deleted a message on the Touch, Gmail would remove that message from the Inbox (it would still be in All Mail so it wasn't really deleted per se). I liked this behavior.
Now with WM 6.5, I set up my Imagio exactly the same way. (And I even went through the menus item-by-item to be sure they were identically configured.) Now, however, when I delete a message on the Imagio, it doesn't remove it from my inbox on Gmail. It just marks it read. That's a real pain. Does anyone else use Gmail via IMAP with their Imagio and does it behave the way you expect? (I can't use Google direct push. That's really Exchange and you can't have more than one Exchange account in the phone.) Thanks! |
Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
I have a similar problem too! In addition, I am only able to see mails in the Inbox, but not mails in the Sent box. Can you see your emails in the Sent box?

For the Sent Items (and other folders) issue, go to the Inbox for that account and select Menu -> Tools -> Manage Folders. Check the box next to Sent Items (and any others you wish) and that will synch with the default stuff from then on. Sent Items is not synched by default. |
Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
Thanks for the information. I got the first issue solved. However, I don't see "Tools" option when I click Menu under Indox. Note that I am not using Outlook email in my Imagio, does it matter?

Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
I'd advise against anyone using Gmail on exchange to sync calendars. I spent 2 hours deleting literally THOUSANDS of duplicate calendar APPOINTMENTS... yes, appointments...Gmail translates calendar entries to appointment invites in outlook AND duplicates them each and every time you sync. 5 days of push syncing and you can imagine how many duplicates this creates. I blame gmail not HTC or WM for this issue.

When I click "Go to" option, it gives me choices for my email accounts and SMS/MMS, but there is no "Tools" option...

On mine, when I set to delete off the server, it just marks them read and doesn't move them out of the Gmail Inbox like it used to on my HTC Touch (WM 6.1). When I set it to move to trash folder, it doesn't even mark them read. This is really strange because these are the exact settings I had in my Touch and I compared them item by item. Also, this happens on two different Gmail accounts. Does anyone else have any ideas? |
Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
Yes, it solved the problem on my phone. When I deleted messages on my Imagio, I won't see them in my email program later (Thunderbird, which may not matter)

Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
Hmmm, well that is darned peculiar. I can't imagine what I can be doing differently, especially since these very same accounts worked perfectly with my WM 6.1 version of the same email app. If it was happening to other Gmail users, then I'd figure they'd changed something about the email app, but it looks like I'm the only one. If anyone else runs across this thread and has any ideas, please drop a reply. I'm completely out of ideas.

Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP? ***Fixed***
I found the answer. \\:D/ It is an innocuous little setting in the email program on the WM 6.5 phone. First, you must have the 'Delete items off server' setting that Fwaits mentioned in post #3. But that won't work alone.
Open the Email program but don't choose an email account to view. Select Menu/Options. Now instead of choosing a specific account for editing, click the 'Storage' tab at the bottom of the screen for settings that control all accounts. Open the drop-down box under the item called 'Empty deleted items' and choose 'Immediately'. (I had it on 'Manually.) Now your IMAP messages will be deleted from your Gmail inbox when you delete them on your Windows Phone. |
Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
Good find, mine defaults to On Connect/Disconnect and works fine, not sure why yours got set on Manual as I've never had to change that setting from the default. Anyway, glad it's working properly now.

Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
I was all through the phone when I first got it... playing around, seeing what the options were, changing things that seemed reasonable. I don't think the manual choice would have seemed appealing on purpose, but I probably just hit the drop-down arrow to see what the options were and ended up changing it. I'm just glad I finally tracked it down; it was driving me crazy! ](*,)Thanks for your help along the way!

Re: Anyone else using WM 6.5 with Gmail IMAP?
I'm using IMAP to access Gmail from my PPC. I have another Outlook exchange account. Since I switched my outlook account to sync directly with exchange I have problems accessing my gmail account. It doesn't show any mails. If I make extra labels I see them added as folders so login is correct. It just won't show me any mails. Does anybody else recognize this problem and has a solution?
