Was I hallucinating?
This seems strange. I could swear that the original behavior of my Imagio for the first few days when I pressed & held the red button was:
But today, it started behaving differently. Now:
So I'm just curious, how does your Imagio behave... like the first description or the second? If the first is the way everyone else's is behaving, then what could have caused the change in behavior? I've installed apps and MS 3.5, but haven't done much in the registry or installed any XDA tweaks yet. |

Re: Was I hallucinating?
If you remove the stylus, the phone automatically unlocks. Was the stylus out when you noticed the new behavior?
|
Re: Was I hallucinating?
Mine also changed from locking itself to now just turning itself off, even if I use the red button to turn off it does not get locked unless I use the lock button. As for myself I prefer the way it worked originally.
As for the stylus, no, it makes no difference. I seldom pull out the stylus and mine still does not lock unless I manually lock the phone. I don't know what changed the action but it is definitely changed. R |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
The stylus doesn't affect mine either, but it's consistently behaving in the second manner. So I'm thinking that fwaits must be on the right track about it being something we've installed. Racedog, here's what I've installed. Do you have any of the same apps?
SPB Mobile Shell, SPB Phone Suite, Ilium eWallet, Ilium Listpro, Pocket Informant, Google Maps, MS Facebook App, MS Reader, Mobipocket, Conduits Timekeeper, Wordbook dictionary, Omnisolve calculator, Resco File Explorer. |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
Are you guys not using TouchFLO anymore? When you long press the End key do you get the same menu or a slightly different one?
Perhaps Mobile Shell does this in some way, I'm not sure, as I don't use it. |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
Sellador the only app we have in common is Google Maps and I don't think that would have anything to do with this. Fwaits, I am still using Touchflo so that isn't the answer either. I don't know what caused it to change but its a minor hassle that I wish I could eliminate and get back to the Imagio locking when I turn the screen off.

Re: Was I hallucinating?
I have turned off TouchFlo 3D and replaced it with Mobile Shell 3.5. I do still get the same menu that I did before so it's not that Mobile Shell has replaced that function completely. I thought Mobile Shell could be the culprit just because it takes over so many things, but now I don't think so since Racedog isn't using it and has the same symptoms. As Racedog says, it's hard to imagine that Google Maps is causing this, but I may uninstall it just to see.
|
Re: Was I hallucinating?
I have Mobile Shell 3.5 and Google Maps. I've experienced no issues wrt the lock/unlock. Works as it should with the stylus in vs out.
I was thinking that it could be hardware and the stylus switch was malfunctioning/broken. But didn't I read that even when you explicityly lock it, it still doesn't lock? |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
I too have lost the auto lock feature (& stupidly started a new thread three hours after this one because the subject of this didn't catch my eye).
If it helps, I have installed Total Commander, changeScreen, PHM Registry Editor, and psShutXP. I removed changeScreen, thinking it might be the cause since it relates to the screen, but still saw the same behavior. I know I should uninstall everything else and hope I find the culprit (if it even is one of them), but haven't yet had the time. I did find a thread over on xda-developers that mentions the use of HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDeviceLockEnable, but that value is zero on the Imagio of a friend who still retains the auto-locking functionality, so I don't believe that is the solution for us. I actually want the functionality back, or at least the ability to use it when I want, so I don't want to give up. |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
Even though that functionality is ok, I didn't like not having a Soft Reset (Restart) option available and found a better way to sleep the screen AND get the Restart and Shutdown options at the same time. If you check out my post on page 2 of this thread:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=90963 There's a link to xdaShutdown which is very nice. You can remap the right softkey from plain Lock to execute this app and get options to sleep (and lock), restart, and shutdown from a skinnable menu. (Skins also on the app thread) The registry key to change the Right (and Left) soft keys is found here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1580427 Maybe this will solve your problem while adding some value like it did for me. |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
Mine behaves like the first description...though I would like it to automatically lock itself and turn off when I press and hold the end key for a second....registry hack?
|
Re: Was I hallucinating?
Notice to all of you guys that are having trouble with the phone "unlocking itself". HTC has used a magnetic sensor in the TouchPro2(stylus AND keyboard slideout) and I believe the Imagio(stylus)...if you have a holster with a magnetic top on it (the flap for closing the pouch etc...), then the phone thinks you are pulling the stylus out or sliding the keyboard open/closed - hence why the behavior has changed for you! - I suggest getting a pouch with a velcrow flap on it...I did!
|
Re: Was I hallucinating?
I haven't used a holster at all, and it has nothing to do with the stylus position, so that's definitely not my problem.
In playing with my friend's phone, we managed to create one situation in which we can make the phone lock or not when it simply turns off. Quite simply, we assigned the multi-media button to an application other than the default Verizon Vcast TV. That caused the lock to no longer happen. Re-assigning the multi-media button to Vcast TV caused the lock function to happen again. I tried doing the same on my phone without any change in behavior, so I don't believe it's magically just that. There appear to be a variety of conditions that cause the problem, but simply re-assigning the button is an odd one. |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
This isn't about the device unlocking unexpectedly, this is just that the locking behavior has changed so that it doesn't lock by default if you don't choose an option on the lock screen.
Humpa, it does lock if I explicitly lock it, but now it doesn't lock if I just choose turn off screen. In that case, when I press the button again, it just comes back to whatever screen I was on. If I don't press any option when the lock screen comes up, the screen turns off automatically, but when I turn it back on, the lock screen is still on the screen and I have to press cancel. In fact, I like this behavior better than the default. It makes sense to me to have one option that locks the screen and another that just turns it off. Others do not like it. Mostly, I just want to understand it. Carteriii, sorry about the thread title. At the time, I was only picturing a response or two just to confirm what I thought I remembered. In hindsight, I should have made a descriptive title that helped people with the same issue find the thread. Also, I tried what you mentioned about reassigning the media button by changing it back to Vcast TV, but it didn't change the behavior in my case. Still, good idea getting with your friend on it to try different things! As more people who have the issue see this, we'll probably find the answer eventually. |

As a tech, I would first determine if the stylus switch was defective. No sense trying to troubleshoot software if the problem is hardware. |

This bug is exactly how the phone will behave if the stylus is removed or if the hardware sensor for the stylus is broken. Do a hard reset. If the problem still occurs, return the phone because that means it is hardware and can't be fixed. |

Re: Was I hallucinating?
Just backed up my current registry, going to do a hard reset and immediately take an image of that registry and do a search for any changes, will let you guys know what I come up with!

Re: Was I hallucinating?
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight
ACBrightness: 10 ACTimeout: 60 AutoDeviceLockEnable: 0 AutoDeviceLockTimeout: 5 BatLockSuspendTimeout: 3 BatteryTimeout: 30 Brightness: 5 Above are the DEFAULT values that it loaded immediately after a hard reset. |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
I was checking out some other threads and noticed that in one thread there is a list of Tobey Chris cabs. One of those cabs is a "Disable Auto Device Lock" cab. I'm wondering if that didn't get incorporated into another cab for some app that we might have installed on our phones?
So far, that is the only rational reason that I can come up with for the lock issue. Jtsdtuedle, you mention that you did a hard reset and you posted the default values, but what you didn't say was whether or not the hard reset fixed the issue?? What I did was to reset the auto timeout for lock to 2 and the lock key to 1. Now, when I'm done and want to turn off the phone I hit the lock softkey. The screen dims in about 5 seconds and then turns off in two more seconds after dimming. Its not elegant but it works for now. BTW, my stylus sensor is working fine. If I pull the stylus while the phone is off it comes right on, I'm not seeing anything different or abnormal about how the stylus sensor is working. I believe this is a software issue. R |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
The default values fixed the lock issue..it now locks like it did when I originally got it - when the backlight turns off.
|
Re: Was I hallucinating?
I've had those registry values all along and still do, but my phone still has the problem (not locking when the backlight turns off). As I mentioned in my earlier post, AutoDeviceLockEnable has been claimed to work for some people, but not all (including people other than just me) so I think there's something additional to be found.
|
Re: Was I hallucinating?
I also restored those registry values to default and it didn't work for me. That's why I went ahead and just started using the lock softkey and turned down the screen timeout values.
Seems to be getting stranger by the day! R |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
It could be either changeScreen or Total Commander, I have lost my lock and I also have those two installed.

Maybe I'll try removing CS and see if that changes anything. The next problem is that removing CS doesn't mean it would change back, it may have caused the lock issue but removing might not necessarily fix the issue. I might just remove it and then check the registry settings on the lock and manually put them back to defaults and see if that might work. R |

Re: Was I hallucinating?
I installed SPBMobileshell 3.5 to try it out. Had it points but I didn't like it and it seemed to make some things worse. I removed it but it left some things messed up. I'm not necessarily blaming it, it might have been a combination of too many things added on and some conflicting. I finally did a hard reset about an hour ago and am now re-installing the apps that I know I want and leaving off a lot of others. So far, everything is now working correctly again including the lock screen.
I never thought it was TC because I've used it for years and never had an issue. It is now re-installed and I'm not having any issues (so far). I'm going to keep my changes minimal from this time on to avoid having to do this kind of thing again. Once I get it running and setup the way I like it I'm going to do a full backup in case I have to restore again. R |

(To others reading the thread) Has anyone else who is seeing this problem installed MS 3.5 (even if you've later removed it)? |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
I did not install mobilshell onto my phone until Sun. 10/25 so that was never the initial issue. What I was saying in my post is that installing SPBMS 3.5 seemed to make things worse. I can't and am not blaming SPBMS for the problems. There were already a number of issues going on with all the installations that I've done, registry hacks and other stuff. I think I was just doing too much playing with the phone and some of the playthings were not getting along well.
Since the hard reset yesterday and careful re-installation of my most needed apps the phone is working extremely well. Browsing speed is now up to snuff, the phone isn't hiccuping at all and the apps that I did put back on are working as expected and intended. I'm happy again with the Imagio and from here on out I'll be very careful about anything that I add on. It will have to be a needed app, not just adding something to be messing with the phone. I did like a number of things about SPBMS but I couldn't figure out how to get a link to my stock quote updates and that is important to me. I used the professional screen as I like things upfront, basic, ready to work. I don't care about having flames shoot out two feet from the screen when I power on etc. My phone is a work phone that I like to also have some fun with but the most important item for me is that it is working well the way I need it to work. Re: Was I hallucinating?
Don't have SPBMS. Screen stopped locked when back light turned off about 3 days after I got the phone. Did a hard reset and it started working again. Almost 3 days to the hour the screen stopped locking again. Very strange.

Re: Was I hallucinating?
I don't know what causes this problem but I seem to have found a way to fix it on my phone. You need a registry editor like PHM Registry Editor (I think I found that in this forum). Go to \HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\ and change the AutoDeviceLockEnable from 0 to 1 then soft reset the phone and you're done.

Re: Was I hallucinating?
I had this problem with just a few cabs installed:
Google Maps HTC Wifi Sharing DHarvey HTC Program Tabs Fix Dusk 6.5 Lockscreen 3.0 I also have a holder with a magnetic closure. After a hard reset, everything returned to normal. One day with no cabs and the magnetic holder and all is still fine. I have re-installed all the cabs except for the Dusk Lockscreen and all seems fine so far. The two things I get out of this is that some cabs (in my case the Dusk Lockscreen) causes this to occur or possibly it is the longer term use of the magnetic holder. I will monitor that. BTW: I didn't mind the change too much except that when I received a call with the device in the holder, for some reason the "ignore with text" was always activated. I wasn't able to answer calls regularly. |
Re: Was I hallucinating?
ou will need to reverse the registry changes that the any of those cabs made, then your lock will work again, make the following changes in your registry:
HKCU - ControlPanel - Keybd - DeviceLockWhenSuspend - change value to "1" from "0" (no quotes) HKCU - ControlPanel - Backlight - AutoDeviceLockEnable - change value to "1" from "0" (no quotes) Now if they are both set to "0" set them both to "1" and reset..... |
