WiFi: connecting to your home network

For years now I have been trying to figure out how to connect my wifi phone to my home network wifi router to share Internet access to all my computers via my cell phone. Several posts here have resulted in nothing.

So I have kept pushing on and I have finally come up with the answer. Funny thing, its quite easy.

First, run WMWifiRouter on your phone and then tap the following; START, Settings, Connections, WiFi, Advanced, Advanced and get your phones IP address. Mine is 192.168.1.1. Also make sure wifi is turned on.

Next you need to make sure your home wifi router's IP address is on the same network, ie: 192.168.1.x. BUT it cannot be the same as the phone's IP address. I set my wifi router to 192.168.1.2. Depending on the rest of your home network setup, you will need to either change the DHCP address pool to be on the same network (192.168.1.x) or you need to change the IP address on every computer on the network. You must set your gateway and DNS address to your phone's IP address.

Once all this has been setup, first just maker sure WMWifiRouter is running on your phone then go in to the wifi app and connect to you home wireless network. That's it, everything on your home network will now see the Inetenet with just one connection.

Oh, one big benefit, I don't pay Verizon for tethering either, saving $30/mo.

Here is my settings:
Phone 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
Wifi Router 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0
DHCP settings 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.19 255.255.255.0
DHCP gateway 192.168.1.1
DHCP DNS 192.168.1.1

Some of my PC's have static IP address but they are on the 192.168.1.0 network.

Enjoy!

PS: I took my home network to the extreme by using Cisco routers and switches plus added some VLANs to the mix. This setup adds many more steps and is quite complex. But hey, I am a cisco CCNA and that's what we do...
