What the hell is the Data Connection option under Communications and why does it turn itself on and off all the time?

The data connection is what allows you to do "regular" Internet stuff from the phone. E-Mail, Web Browsing, MMS (I think MMS needs it), Google Maps, etc etc. With it off, you basically just get phone and SMS (and perhaps MMS, I do think it uses standard IP).

I don't know why it turns on and off, but it seems to be a common problem. I've seen many folks say it has to do with a lost/weak signal. Does it all the time for me, especially if I'm driving around.
