Using Google Voice / YouMail for all Visual Voicemail
Now that Sprint made conditional forwarding free as of November 8, using 3rd party visual voicemail systems such as Google Voice and YouMail are free. (Rumor has it that ALL call forwarding may be free for Everything plan subscribers later this month.)
So, is anyone planning to turn the reins over? I have been a little hesitant since Visual Voicemail was one of the features I was most excited about when getting the Hero, but... I do love Google Voice and the Android app actually works pretty well. You click on the transcribed message and you can either play the recording or just read the text. Plus, you don't have to worry about losing the message ever and, of course, searching for information you got via a voicemail is way easier. What do you all think? I am happy with any advancement. Honestly I havent weighed the differences between them all yet.

Re: Using Google Voice / YouMail for all Visual Voicemail
Google voice is cool, but they have no real ability for SMS, I know you can use Gvoice app, but that isn't what I'm looking for. I like the ability for transcribing voicemails, but most of the time its a little off haha.

Re: Using Google Voice / YouMail for all Visual Voicemail
Yeah, I'm not ready to use Google Voice for all my sms and calls, but I think I'm gonna try the option to have them manage my voicemails only. We'll see how that works. My wife already gets on me about Google taking over my life (privacy concerns between Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Checkout, etc.). Why not add another to the list.

Re: Using Google Voice / YouMail for all Visual Voicemail
Google voice will be worth it when they integrate it with the actual phone. I don't want it to be an app, I have a google phone, so it should run google voice.
Visual voicemail is a cool idea, but I've yet to see a transcribed voicemail that was even close to what was actually said. The best part for me is that it handles multiple phone numbers and each one uniquely. This is great for me bc I have a business line as well as a personal line, but until its integrated, I won't use it. |
Re: Using Google Voice / YouMail for all Visual Voicemail
I like the way Google Voice works for me... it prevents me from carrying 2 phones around. I carry one and get google voice to forward my calls and messages. I did use google voice to get a google number also...
