Hopefully ill figure it out.

I had been using my SD card in my TP and tried creating the folders and it did not work. I then copied everything off, reformatted the card in my PC and then created the folders and it worked fine after that

It just shows all my custom made ring tones (mp3s) in the Music player. With the method you posted.

I read this somewhere else (can't remember where exactly), but... in order to hide the ringtones from displaying in the media player simply create a blank file called ".nomedia" and put it in the same folder as the ringtones. After a soft reset, the ringtones should be gone from the media player.

Still haven't figured out how to select a custom ringtone though. Very annoying. I guess I'll try the app you guys mentioned.

I think I figured this out. Ringtones were not showing up for me, even if I created that structure on the SD card. So, I'd started using the RingExtended app.

Then while troubleshooting some other issue, I reformatted my card and when I copied all my files back over, lo and behold, the ringtones did show up as an option to choose in the stock sounds/notifications settings.

Anyway, now after doing some additional reading over on Sprint Users, it looks like it doesn't have anything to do with formatting the card. The issue is that if you create the folders on the card directly, it doesn't get picked up by Android OS (or at least by the Hero). However, if you set up the structure on your PC and then copy it over to the card... voila, the phone sees it correctly. Strange, right?

Damn... I sure can be wordy sometimes! LOL! Hope this helps someone, cause it was driving me crazy!

Re: Ringtones as Texttones but not ringtones

Well, I have tried everything suggested here and at XDA and the ONLY thing that has worked for me is to download Ringdroid and save my mp3s as ringtones, notifications, or alarms.

I really hate having to rely on an app to do something that I should be able to do successfully by myself. What is the factor that allows some people to just throw the mp3s onto the SD card (whether using the media\audio\ringtones file structure or not) and yet makes others jump through hoops?
