HTC Sync won't install on PC
 

I cannot get the HTC Sync to install on my PC. Has anyone else had this problem? I am running XP and IE 8 so please advise if anyone can help me figure this out.
I have tried to install it from the SD card as advised from the guide book and then tried downloading the software from the HTC site but i keep getting this same error on both:
Generic Device Manager Executable has incountered a problem and cannot complete install.
One more question: Not before I got the phone but while browsing sevdral forums I learned that the Hero has visual voicemail but I have not been able to get it to work. I do have the most recent version so anyone have any suggestions?

It bluescreened my pc w/ xp sp3 & ie 8... I noticed that XP SP3 was not one of the OS's supported... it only went to SP2!
