Hero bootloader.

Just wondering if someone tried this "Shutdown the phone and restart by pressing and holding power and the Back Button, you should be in bootloader..." these are the steps to go in bootloader mode in the gsm version, might work with the cdma.

yea, hopefully a combination of button presses won't brick your phone, or HTC may have a problem on their hands lol.

Bricking normally happens your bootup code/firmware is either not 100% installed or it is not compatible with the hardware its running on. If you don't conmect your phone to a computer and don't tamper with it using any utilities then you will not brick it. It simply isnt possible. Now throwing it against the wall can do a lot more than bricking. LOL don't try it at home ;)

Now that will brick your phone, there's no known 1.6 out for HTC Hero (CDMA) yet.
