HTC Hero-- Make this sucker go faster!

I have an HTC Hero200 android 2.1 rooted--

Looking for a way to increase speed..

Im using Linpack for Andriod and right now im getting 2.2 MFLOPS max...
I know this phone can do better then that so can anyone help me out?

Best performing ROMs?
Guides?
Anything would be appreciated!

So just to clarify, can you over clock w/o being rooted? I just updated to the 2.1 release from cell south and I have never rooted the phone.

No. The overclocking app requires root, let alone that the stock kernel cannot be overclocked.

Ok so can I still root since I've updated to the 2.1? Didnt know if the OS version made a difference when rooting.
