Hero gives DATA CALL FAILURE boxes and I can't register with gmail!! What is going on
 

The Hero has turned out to be a huge DUD.

By the 2nd week of ownership, after being unable to register with the Market, I started to get numerous Data Call Failure boxes daily, even tho the rest of my phone was working.

I then called Sprint. Was finally told to do a factory reset....and though I can still receive phone calls, I can do NOTHING with my phone--cannot register my gmail account, have no home page, have lost everything, and still get those dang boxes. ](*,)

And when I try to log in with my gmail, I get a registration failure notice that says "this could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services" Huh??? :scratch:

Is there any brilliant individual out there who can give me a kindergarten step-by-step answer to this ridiculous problem??

You need to call sprint again. The issue is on their end of the discussion. They have either improperly entered the data for your vision/data account, or it has expired and needs to be refreshed. DO NOT let them hang up with you until you have data working again. This is their issue, and they definitely CAN fix it. I'm had it happen to me before quite a few times.

The other option is to go to a Spint store that is a service center and refuse to leave until they have it working properly. I have the feeling that sometimes Sprint doesn't believe me when I call about problems, but when their service guys call they get answers.

From the home screen:
Hit Menu>Settings>About Phone>System Updates>Update Profile....

That should fix your problem ;)
