AOSP ROMs?

I had to look up AOSP, the acronym, as I had no idea what it meant. What's the deal with these ROMs? What makes them special? The only thing I've noticed from some of the threads is they have the internet down on the lower bar... I downloaded Darchdroid's latest ROM but haven't installed it yet, so I haven't had a chance to see first hand what the deal is.

Re: AOSP ROMs?

AOSP is Android Open Source Project. That means that no carrier has a had a chance to touch the rom (it is made entirely from the source code that you or i could download right now). It gives the devlopers a lot more opportunity to play around with the bits and pieces of the rom and doesn't have any deep rooted carrier crap. It is as the good google intended. I for one like the AOSP keyboard a whole lot better.

So, these would have Froyo already?

Re: AOSP ROMs?

no. For AOSP roms, the kernel has to be re-worked. There are AOSP froyo builds for the hero, but not everything works.
